Fractal of the Day

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts: The rush continued today here at Fractal Central, with even the cats helping out. They gave their aid by acting as paperweights and sitting on the work. But despite the rush, I found time to scrounge up a quick fractal. The expression -1.48*(1/Z)-0.05*Z^(-11)+(1/C) was calculated by the MandelbrotMix4 formula to produce the image of today's FOTD. It's an image with large flat areas, the kind of image that requires a narrow, sharply defined palette of colors, with numerous dark bands. I named the picture "Unexpected Midget" when a midget turned up where least expected -- in a spider-like parent fractal that is all arms with no body. After a brief consideration, I rated the picture a slightly below average 4, since fractals with such patchy flat areas of color are not my favorite type. A good feature is that the parameter file is quite fast, running in only 34 seconds. But since it will take longer than that to copy the file to the proper directory, the GIF image has been posted to: The fractal weather today was partly cloudy, humid, and 84F (29C). The cats must have disapproved, as they spent most of the day keeping me company while I worked. And speaking of work, it's going quite well. By the time I hit the road this Saturday morning, things should be far enough ahead so that I'll be able to enjoy my week's vacation in Maine, the first time off in two years, without concern. If all goes well, I'll return armed with an arsenal of newly pondered philosophy. Whether I post it remains to be determined. But one thing most certainly determined is that the time has come to shut down the fractal shoppe, scat the cats, and call it an evening.
