FOTD -- September 12, 2000   (Rating 7)

Fractal visionaries and enthusiasts:

Today was very busy here at Fractal Central as I tried to get ahead in the non-fractal work, so I can take a holiday next week without worry.   As a result, I found it necessary to turn to my fractal archives and pull out an image several months old.   But old or not, it's an image good enough to receive the honor of being declared FOTD.

The formula behind the image, -Z^(-0.9)-Z^(-2.2)+(1/C), is simple enough, though I can't remember the appearance of the parent fractal.   It's an image composed of bits and pieces of fractal stuff, all of it surrounding a Mandelbrot Minibrot, which is the name I gave it.   The rating of 7 may be a bit high, but only by a point or so.

The parameter file takes 23 minutes to render.   That's slow enough for the download of the GIF file to be by far the better choice.   The file may be found on Usenet at:
alt.binaries.pictures.fractals
and on the Web at:

The fractal weather today was near perfect.   Only a few too many clouds and a slightly high humidity kept it from being absolutely perfect.   The temperature of 84F (29C) lured the fractal cats to the outdoors, though I was too busy to watch their antics.

The philosophy went nowhere today.   In fact I didn't even think of philosophy until I began this paragraph.   That might change however when I check my e-mail, which I haven't had a chance to read yet today.

And now, though it's still early, I'm already ready for a long evening of dozing before the TV.   I'll return tomorrow with another FOTD and other odds and ends.   Until then, take care, and have a perfectly fractal day.
