FOTD -- October 18, 1999

Fractal enthusiasts and visionaries:

I found little time for the FOTD today, spending most of the time at the local Renaissance festival, where I was dragged at 11am and held captive until 5pm.   But when I finally escaped, I did manage to find today's quickie image.

I named the image "Rectangular Object" because it is a picture of what might be called a mini-Rectangular set.   The location of the scene is off to the side of the Seahorse Valley area of the prominent Minibrot at -1.7545.

The 'object' resembles a mini-Julia set more than anything else.   It is curious that Julia-like features appear in all slices and at all angles through the Julibrot, while Mandelbrot features are confined to just two slices and two orientations.   But that's the fun of fractals.

I rate today's effort at about a 4 on the 1-to-10 scale.   We'll hope for better things tomorrow.   Today's mediocre effort may be seen by starting the parameter file and standing back a minute or so.   It may also be seen by downloading the image file from Usenet at:
alt.binaries.pictures.fractals
or from the W.W.W. at:
http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html

The weather today was cloudy and damp, with a light rain in the afternoon that thankfully cut the festival short.   The temperature of 68F (20C) would have been perfect for fractals.

Of course, the philosophy got absolutely nowhere today.   I hope for better things tomorrow, for I've certainly got a lot to say.   Until that glorious moment when the next FOTD arrives, take care, and there's nothing as funny as a wet wife of Windsor.
