Fractal of the Day
by Jim Muth
FOTD -- December 24, 1998
Fractal visionaries:
Today was perfect here at fractal central. The morning temperature of 17F -8C was followed by a cloudy afternoon, with snow beginning at 4:30pm -- absolutely perfect for nine reindeer and a sleigh full of toys.
The fractal hunting went equally as perfectly. I went once again to the MandelbrotMix7 formula and examined the difference around Z^5. The scene I found reminds me of a stand of ice-encrusted trees such as one might find near the tree line on a mountain side after a spell of inclement weather. I naturally named it "Line of Fractal Trees".
The ice-covered branches form the outline of part of a Mandeloid, with several quite obvious buds. The exploring in these buds looks interesting, though I haven't yet looked there.
The GIF file of the finished image has been posted to:alt.binaries.pictures.fractalsand to Paul Lee's web site at:http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html
Now I hear the tinkle of tiny sleigh bells in the distance. I guess it's time to close the fractal shop and give the elves a chance to come out from hiding. Until next time, take care, and don't fall prey to that last minute panic.
