Fractal of the Day

FOTD -- December 18, 1998
Fractal visionaries:
Today was perfect for fractal hunting, the temperature of 45F 7C, scudding clouds and brisk wind making it feel just right for mid-December. Christmas is eight days away. Will we have snow this year? Only time will tell, but here at fractal central we have snow on the ground on Dec 25 only about once every 25 years.
The fractal situation might have been perfect, but the domestic scene here at the fractal center was not so perfect. The perfection was marred when a discussuon about the international situation and political motives got out of control. But sanity eventually prevailed and tranquility was restored. Which side do I think is right? IMHO, there is no answer. Asking such a question is like asking whether photons are waves or particles -- one can prove that photons are either one.
Now that I've squirmed my way out of that spot, I notice that we have a fractal picture to discuss. Remaining in yesterday's formula, I found today's broken up midget after only a 10-minute search. I named the picture "Schizoid Midget" because the little thing is one of the most split apart midgets I have ever stumbled upon.
The exponent in the formula is 2.5, though the midget looks more like a cubic. This particular fractal is quite rich with such odd shaped midgets. If there weren't so many other fractals to explore, I'd take a week or so to explore this one.
The GIF file has been posted to:alt.binaries.pictures.fractalsand to:http://home.att.net/~Paul.N.Lee/FotD/FotD.html
I'll appear here again tomorrow with more fractal news, a 15 percent chance of a bit of philosophy, and a zero percent chance of my political opinion. Until then, take care, and keep your cool with a cool fractal.
