Candy Wreath


Materials:
  • Wire hanger
  • Seasonal curling ribbon
  • 2 1/2 lbs candy wrapped at both ends.
  • 3-inch wide ribbon for bow.
  • Childrens scissors (optional)
  1. Bend wire hanger into a circle using the hook for hanging.
  2. Cut curling ribbon into 12-inch lengths, one for each piece of candy and the scissors.
  3. Curl the ribbon and tie each piece onto the hanger until the entire wreath is covered and full.
  4. Attach the optional scissors.
  5. Tie the wide ribbon into a bow and attach to the wreath.

Cookie Wreath

From your favorite Chocolate Cookie recipe make a wreath instead of individual cookies. Line 2, 12" pizza pans with foil. Invert 4" oven-proof bowls in center of each pan; grease outside of bowl. Spread half of dough onto each prepared pan to within 1/2" of bowl and pan edges. Bake for 10-15 minutes or until light golden. Carefully remove bowls. Cool; remove from pan. Decorate as desired with candies and colored decorator frosting.

Candy Glass

Ingredients:
  • Holiday cookie cutters
  • Hard candies and sprinkles
  • 10 inch length of ribbon
Procedure:
Preheat oven to 350 For a mold, wrap the bottom and sides of a cookie cutter with foil. Set on a baking sheet and coat with cooking spray. Fill each cookie cutter with a single layer of candies. Bake for 10 minutes or until melted. Add sprinkles, cool for 2 minutes, then use a chopstick to poke a hole near the top for hanging. Once cool, remove from the mold and hang with a ribbon.
Tester's tip: Jolly Rancher candies work best, since they produce the brightest color.

Eggnog-Poppy Seed Bread

Ingredients:
  • 2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup poppy seed
  • 1 1/4 cups prepared eggnog
  • 1 Tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon grated orange peel
  • 3 Tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 egg
Procedure:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease bottom only of a 9x5 loaf pan, Beat together all ingredients just until moistened. Pour into pan. Bake 55 to 65 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean; cool slightly. Loosen sides of loaf from pan; remove from pan. Cool completely on wire rack before slicing. Wrap and refrigerate up to 1 week.

Yield: 1 loaf

Cranberry Banana Bread

Ingredients:
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 1 1/3 cup sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cup bananas - mashed
  • 3 1/2 cup self-rising flour
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 sixteen oz can cranberry sauce - whole berry
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
Procedure:
Preheat oven to 325 Cream shortening and sugar in bowl until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs and bananas. Add flour and soda; mix well. Mash cranberry sauce with fork. Fold sauce and walnuts into batter. Pour into 2 greased and floured 9 x 5 loaf pans. Bake for 1 hour or until loaves test done.
Yield: 2 loaves

Eggnog Pie

Ingredients
  • 2 1/2 cups eggnog
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 9 Inch prepared pie crusts
  • nutmeg
Procedure:
Preheat oven to 425. Prick piecrusts with a fork and prebake for about 5 to 7 minutes or until light golden brown. Remove from oven. Reduce oven heat to 350. Combine eggnog, sugar, and eggs and mix well. Pour into pie shells. Sprinkle a little nutmeg on top. Bake pies for 30 to 40 minutes or until almost set. Cover edges of pie about halfway through if the crust is getting too brown. Cool for 2 hours and keep in the refrigerator.

Frozen Christmas Salad


  • 1 large container Cool Whip
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can cherry pie filling
  • 1 can crushed pineapple drained
  • 1 1/2 cups miniature marshmallows, folded in
Mix all ingredients well, place in pan and freeze.

Ginger Bread Man - Recipe for Life

  • 1 Heaping cup of encouragement
  • 1 Heaping cup of encouragement
  • 1 cup of melted compassion
  • 2 cups of hope
  • 1 cup of love
  • 1 tablespoon of faith (it only takes a little)
  • 2 large attitude
  • Lots of hugs in assorted sizes
Cream encouragement and compassion together. Add hope, love, and faith. Mix thoroughly until smooth. Slowly add the unbeaten attitude. Batter should be firm but not unyielding. knead gently. Roll in hugs and cut out to the desired shape. Add stars for eyes and a kiss. Bake in a warm oven. Excellent when shared with a friend.

Apple Crescents

Melissa Sent in this Recipe:
a quick and easy apple snack for a very tasty treat!
Ingredients:
  • 1 can of Pillsbury Crescent Rolls
  • 1 apple peeled, cored, and sliced into half moon shapes
  • 1/2 cup melted butter or margerine
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • cinnamon
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray cookie sheet with non-stick cooking spray. Separate crescents into the 8 pre-cut triangular shape. Take apple slices and dip them first into the melted butter, then into the sugar, and place one into each crescent. Sprinkle the apple with cinnamon. Starting from the wide end of the crescent, roll the apple up toward the pointed end of the crescent and place on cookie sheet. Do each crescent, placing one apple slice in each. After each apple is rolled and placed on cookie sheet, paint tops with melted butter, and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon. Bake at 350 degrees until crescents are golden brown.
(optional) Top with white icing, store bought, or your own homemade.

Evergreen Mint Punch


Thanks to our Readers for the following recipes:
  • 1/2 gallon vanilla ice cream(and more for scoops) softened
  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 cup green creme de menthe
  • Optional Candy canes or Andes mints
In a punch bowl, combine 1/2 gallon ice cream, milk, and creme de menthe; stir until it reaches a pourable consistency. Make scoops of vanilla and float on punch. Serve immediately, garnished with candy canes and Andes mints, if desired.
Serves 8

Cider Snap


  • 2 cups apple cider or juice
  • 4 teaspoons red cinnamon candies
  • Optional 4 thin apple slices

In a 4-cup measure combine apple cider and cinnamon candies. Micro-cook, uncovered, on 100% power for 4 to 5 minutes or till candies dissolve and the cider is steaming hot, stirring once. Serve in mugs. Garnish with apple slices, if desired.
