After just returning from Sedona and other parts of
Arizona I am eager to craft my own Kokopelli. Either
used as a cross stitch,
or as my own petroglyph.
(I even brought back a piece of red slate from our
hiking trip to Red Rock Country just for that purpose).
Perhaps using a
clip art Kokopelli for a scroll saw pattern would be fun.
For those who may not know, the
Kokopelli is a petroglyph of a humpbacked Flute
player. Some say that he carried seeds of
plants and flowers in the hump and that with his flute music he
created warmth. When ancient people migrated, they
carved petroglyphs of him on rocks all the way from
the tip of South America up to Canada. I also have
plans for doing him on a water color background of
Sedona rocks in Reds and golds. For a more
traditional look at how to draw him see
these design elements. Robert Shields
does him with a sense of humor as he does all of his art work.
