Country Crafts Christmas

Christmas is a Season steeped in family tradition handed down from generation to generation as well as treasured collections which are added to year after year.
Personally, I have a collection of ornaments both hand crafted and hand picked as well as a collection of Christmas Books I add to every year. Enjoy some of these crafts and start your own traditions.

• One l2 inch red taper candle
• 8 regular size candy canes (leave wrappers on) - all same size
• hot glue gun
• Ribbon of your choice- about l-l/2" wide (long enough to tie around candle holder and to make a bow)

1. Remove plastic wrap from candle
2. Position a candy cane on one side of candle (leave plastic on candy cane) and y hot glue the long portion of the candy cane to the candle with the curve of the candy cane facing outwards on the bottom of the candle- leave about an inch extending below the bottom of the candle. These handles will form the base of the holder.
3. Glue another candy cane on the opposite side of the first one.
4. To help position the rest of the candy canes, rest the holder on a paper plate and position the 3rd and 4th as if the lst and 2nd ones were north and south on the candle, make 3 and 4 on the east and west. Hot glue these on one at a time.
5. Fill in the 4 remaining spaces with the 4 remaining candy canes (they will be pretty much touching each other).
6. Tie the ribbon around the whole thing, make a bow, and secure with a dab of hot glue.

• Use the straight candy canes around a fat candle and tie ribbon in a similar fashion.
• Use cinnamon sticks around a fat candle and tie with a piece of jute.

• Dried herbs - eucalyptus, sage, rosemary, thyme, lavender etc.
• Floral wire
• Raffia
• Optional- miniature pine cones

1. Group small bundles of each herb and begin forming a large bundle by laying them in opposite directions so that the stem ends will be hidden in the middle of the bundles.
2. Wrap the bundle in the center with a piece of floral wire.
3. Wrap the wire with raffia and tie off so the wire doesn't show. As further decoration add a miniature pine cone. For a ladder effect, tie multiple bundles with the same piece of raffia. Cut between each section of herbs when you want to use a bundle for the fire.
4. To burn, place on simmering coals letting it smoulder.

Living Advent Tree

• Small pine tree
• Scraps of red and green fabric- your choice of plaids, christmas print, calicos, any small prints
• 25 small ornaments (or trinkets)
• Jute
• 25 pieces of Candy or gum
• 25 Ornament hangers
• Grocery Sacks or Kraft paper
• Pen
• Hole Punch

1. Tear the fabric into 25 pieces measuring about 6" square. plaids, christmas print, calicos, any small prints
2. Add a piece of candy and an ornament to the center of each square. You could also place a note in the 7, 14, and 21 day bundles.
3. Cut 25 small squares of Kraft paper or the Grocery sack about 1 1/2" square and write on each from 1 to 25. Punch a hole in the upper left corner of each.
4. Bundle the package. Tie the jute around the bundle, attach the card and hang from the tree with an ornament hanger.
5. Remember to water the tree about once a week or whenever it feels dry.
