More about Downers Grove Chess Club
The club does not meet on major Holidays (like 4th of July, Christmas, or New Years) when they fall on Wednesday. In case the club won't be meeting, we attempt to notify members ahead of time. And indicate it on this website too.
Our typical calender of activities is: 1st Wednesday of the month is a speed chess tournament, 2nd and 4th Wednesdays is one round in the G/90 Ladder, 3rd Wednesday is chess lecture and the chess library is at the club.
On open nights (and anytime you prefer to), we mainly play G/5, G/10, or unclocked games. Play chess however you and your chess opponent want to play.
DGCC has two G/90 Ladders per year, with results seeding players into "Cup" tournaments. More info is found on this webpage.
DGCC fields a team in the Chicago Industrial Chess League, a team chess league with dozens of teams around the greater Chicago-land area. DGCC's team won 1st in the overall 2009 CICL championships. Each CICL season goes from September through May.
Does DGCC run USCF tournaments? Yes! DGCC runs minimal-cost (for example $5) USCF-rated tournaments on the weekend. We hold about one tournament every other month. More info about DGCC's USCF tournaments is at this webpage
The club provides chess pieces, boards and clocks. However players can bring their own too.
All chess players are welcome at DGCC. DGCC policy is: folks under the age of 16 are to be escorted by a parent while at the club.
DGCC's policy is that promoting non-DGCC chess activities (tournaments, events, clubs, etc.) at DGCC is permitted only with the express consent of DGCC's officers.
Restrooms and drinking fountains are available. If you'd like to bring something to drink (non-alcoholic), feel free.
Who organizes DGCC? Brian Smith is the club's President. Ralph Wakerly, Steffen Klug, and Gaddiel Tan are the club's Vice-Presidents. Elections are held in August each year. All four guys are included in this photo
