Status of additional data source support - 4/23/01

So I'm way behind on this. I started a new job recently. That combined with other things is consuming my development time. However, I'm starting to catch up a little. No idea yet when I have the new data source support released. Also, there may be an interim release prior to that to add functionality that will allow folks to pull index symbols over as regular securities. Another bit of news today. I read that Microsoft and CNBC will be combining their financial web sites. CNBC was one of the additional sources I was planning to add support for. MSN MoneyCentral is also one that is currently supported. Not sure what this means, in terms of ConvertTrack. They may choose one portfolio model or the other, or do something entirely different. We'll just have to wait and see. Just wanted folks to have a heads up. The details can be found here.  That's all for now. Thanks.

Latest information on web data sources - 1/20/01

So it's official. Quicken will no longer have the download feature effective March 1, 2001. As I mentioned before, Lycos seems to have taken away the download capability. So currently, we are left with Yahoo, MSN Money Central, and Compuserve (members only). I have also located three additional online stock price sources: CNBC, CBS MarketWatch, and Kiplingers. I am feverishly adding support for these new source formats as we speak and should be done some time next week. That's all for now. Thanks.

Web Price Sources Disappearing - 1/2/01

After receiving an email from one of your brother/sister ConvertTrack users today informing me that some of the Quicken related sites (Prodigy and Excite) will no longer be offering the "Download" feature after March 1, 2001, I did some investigation. I was able to verify this on my quicken.excite.com portfolio download but not my quicken.com download. I also checked on Lycos and they seem to have taken away the download feature as well. So our list of web data sources is shrinking. Yahoo is still a good source and MSN Money Central (Microsoft) still works, I believe. Compuserve also has the download capability. As I mentioned, I still had success downloading a quicken.com portfolio, so it may only be sites that have licensed the portfolio service from Quicken, like Excite and Prodigy Internet. I have no affiliation with any of these services, so they can, and will, do as they please. I have no control over that. I will try and continue to monitor the existing data source sites as well as search for new ones periodically. Also, if others find that other sites are disappearing or find new data sources, please email me at the address at the bottom of this page and I will post your findings on this web site and let others know. Thanks.

ConvertTrack Version 1.4.1 was released on 11/14/00 !

The 1.4.1 release of ConvertTrack fixed a problem with source files from the Quicken.com site or other Quicken based sites (Excite, Prodigy.net, etc.) It appears that these sites potentially use two symbols for the Dow Jones Industrial Index. The first is "INDEX:INDU", which it has used for some time. The second is "INDEX:DJI". Either appears to work, but in order to allow for and handle either case, ConvertTrack has been modified. Also, on Quicken.com, you have the ability to choose whether the indexes appear at the top or bottom of your downloaded quotes table. ConvertTrack will handle either case now.

Configuration and Users Guide (finally!)

Now available on the ConvertTrack web site is a Configuration and User Guide which gives detailed instructions on configuring and using ConvertTrack in conjunction with the Yahoo site, including screen shots. Although the document contains specific information about downloading and using quotes from Yahoo, the same configuration concepts apply to other sites. See the documentation section for more details.

ConvertTrack Version 1.4.0 was released on 7/14/00 !

The 1.4.0 release of ConvertTrack added support for three additional input (source) formats. These included Compuserve CSV files, Compuserve QIF files and Wall Street Journal CSV files. These source formats can be found at the Compuserve and Wall Street Journal web sites respectively.

Please check the
ConvertTrack Release Notes for the details of each release.
