Here are some animated gif files I've constructed. Since they are a little large I put them into separate pages so they wouldn't have to load at the same time. Gif movies I've made and placed on my pages were built with many hours of work, a spark of creativity, and the use of a registered versions of Simply 3D and Alchemy Mindworks' Gif Construction Set (not a paid commercial).
1. You can stretch any image either way (width and height) with varied results. The result is less clarity if you expand it to a width or height (or both) larger than the original, and more clarity if you shrink it. You can get carried away in making an image smaller for better clarity, since it can eventually be two small to see in very good detail.
If you size an image for display on the internet, this can be a difficult thing, since some folks browse here with a desktop set to 640x480, and others at 1024x768. If you are interested in serving everyone then you need to keep this in mind (and may Great Spirit help you). Most folks on the internet (like myself), use settings that accommodate 800x600 desktops and use a disclaimer on their homepage which reflects that.
2. Animated gif files are not images. They are a series of images that load and play in sequence, or movies. The rules of expanding the height of an animated gif file is different than with single images. If you expand some animated gifs to be larger than the original you don't just loose clarity, but also gain horizontal lines. Real outer limits stuff! It doesn't matter if you set it shorter, thinner, or wider than the original.
The three color cube on this page (cube3dclr.gif) is actually 49x49 pixels in width and height, and these are the settings I used on my "Links" page. For examples, I've set the same gif file to different dimensions in the row above, and for the buttons below. The row of cubes at the top of this page are set to (width x height) 29x49, 39x39, 49x 29, 39x39, and 29x49. This animated gif file is used as buttons below with the settings at 10x10.
Strobes? Our monitors are strobing at around 60hz or more. Coupling this variable (and others) with loading a white and then black .gif file back-to-back causes some interesting effects. The 100x and 200x .gifs are timed to exchange the two frames at 6 millisecond intervals, and the 400x .gif is timed to 1 milisecond. You may wish to go to your browser's options and remove the buttons menu bar and the location bar for minimizing interfering light. Also, turn off lights in the room where you are operating your computer.
The active icons below are linked to companies which provide software used on my pages, or services I use to access the internet. In no way do I benefit by you clicking on the icons to go investigate these sites. If you find something you may be interested in, be sure to make a bookmark to easily reference it later. Except for the Simply 3D 3 icon, these icons are originals and property of those companies represented.
