Nichelle Nichols is featured as Communications Officer Uhura.
A brilliant dancer as well as a fine singer, Miss Nischols had demonstrated her ability as an actress, twice being nominated for the Sara Siddons Award as best actress of the year. Heer first nomination was for her portrayal of Hazel Sharp in Kicks and Co., the second for her performance in the hit play The Blacks.
Michelle was born and raised in Cicago and studied there, in Los Angeles, and in New York. During her time in New York she appeared at the famed Blue Angel and the Playboy Club. Between appearances at the clubs, she doubled as standby to the lead in the Broadway musical No Strings.
She appeared in the title role of a Chicago stock company production of Carmen Jones.
On the West Coast Nichelle has appeared in The Roar of the Greasepaint, The smell of the Crowd, For My People, and won high critical acclaim for her performace in the James Baldwin play, Blues for Mister Charle.
A relatively ne face on TV, Nichelle appeared on "CBS Repertory Theater," followed by a guest star role on "The Lieutenant."
Movie audiences will soom see Nichelle in featured roles in the forthcoming feature films Mister Buddwing and Three for the Wedding.
During he leisure hours Nichelle enjoys oil painting and designing her own clothes, and says she is "mad" for sports cars. In a desire to further her artistic abilities, she is currently taking lessons in sculpting.
Nichelle lives in Los Ageles, sharing her home with her two Siamese cats.
