Micro-Trains Unveils New F7 Paint Schemes

The Master Z Scale Layout of Paul Brooke - Page 21

The Trackside Perspective - This issue is dedicated to the memory of A. E. Roach - 2000 Thoughts...- Robert Kluz

{I must comment here - I have been castigating Ed. Rob Kluz for his free use of grammar and punctuation so it's only fair to compliment him on his sudden attention to our fair English language; well done, Zir! - SB,III}

MailBag - miscellaneous letters - Fred Ladd comments obn the wonderful progress in Z, comparing to John Allen's HO layout {the Gorre & Daphetid}.

Z Sightings... - ETE Express features Ye Ed's layout - MR poll hot on Z.

Märklin Unveils 2000 Line...  U.S. 4-6-0! - although the 81461 USA "The Burlington Route" steam starter set (with 2-8-2 Mikado) is pictured (in part), the featured release is the IC "Casey Jones" 4-6-0 train set {the Märklin engine is identical to Aspen's 30028 by Westmodell}, plus many other items.

Collector's Corner
Special locomotive ad Car from Nürnberg 2000
Promo-printed elok and flat car, the latter with a rotor from the new Z scale 5-pole motor.

New ad for scenery maintenance from Scene Clean.

Gill's Z Scale King Ludwig Layout Neuschwanstein Castle is the centerpiece for the King Ludwig set (with a Faulhaber motor).  Also, how to use a 9V battery safely {I owe you all an article on this - SB,III}.

Lightweight Layout Techniques of the Val Ease Central©
{How can the name be copyrighted?  The article - yes, but the name - no!
Now, did you get that name "Val Ease" - or do I have to spell,it out for you?
Talk about the Gorre & Daphetid!
}

Jeff MacHan writes on the use of foam board for a layout.

Product Review Freudenreich Feinwerktechnik U.S. Box Cab Diesel
"Harald Freudenreich has set a completely new standard" - so says ye Ed. {and so say we all!!!}  Photos show the American Rolling Mills (ARMCO) and U. S. Steel and the CRR-NJ and Erie versions, with and without end doors.  The Ready to Run Box Cab... Greg Slivinski waxes rhapsodical about Harald's out-of-the-box, pad-printed
tour-de-force; he got the CNJ #1000 (the very first proto unit sold, no end doors).  Then Simon Yee chimes in similarly; he liked the tiger stripes, so he got the U. S. Steel version (end doors), and shows us the underside.  The Kit... Sam Berliner {III} (me) then describes the incredible detail and illustrates it with photos of the chassis and the chassis with a bare body on it and with microphotos of the steps and stack and bell on a U.S. penny!  I will have more on this model for the next issue.}  You are then referred to my CNJ #1000 Website for more informationn {but I'd suggest you start at the main Boxcabs page, first}.

{ERRATA: - ye Ed. blew it twice in my part of the article.  The word for the little gizzy sitting on the roof is "clerestory", NOT "clearstory" (my text was correct as submitted) and I wrote that the large brake was "just abaft" the right front truck; NOT "just aft", which would require "of", as in "just aft of".  Hey, he's learning fast - anything to avoid my scathing criticism!}

New Z Scale Web Site... - Eric Amirault's new site focuses mainly on electronics and wiring.

INSERT - Rob inserted a two-sided flyer with:

A notice of the 15 Apr 00 Texas meet (see below) and

an ad for Ztrack Accessories.

The ad carries over the beautiful little 1936 coupés but also now offers BM-WC110, a six-axle black well car with a giant transformer and M-T couplers and wheelsets {trucks?}. These are all the work of Bob Marotta.  The wellflat car is available separately as BM-WC100 and the trafo alone as BM-TR100.

Now, I'm violating all my rules but - ya gotta see this!  Here is a composite grab-shot of all three {I'm probably violating Rob's copyright, if any, also - so sue me!}:

Ztrack/Marotta Well Flat w/ Trafo
(Image courtesy of Ztrack Magazine)

{Now, I complained to Rob "This is grossly unfair of you!  How in heck can I economise when you and Bob Marotta bring out beautiful Z coupés and now an absolutely-irresistible Z well flat with a trafo!  Fink!"  Which is tongue-in-cheek, of course, but still - - - !  I'd already ordered a clutch of coupés (oooh, I like that!) and now have ordered the well flat - I said it was irresistible!}

What's on the Track...
Roden's 89' TTWX Trailer Train Car - Billy Roden has gne and scratched an 89' TOFC/COFC car that is incredible!  You'll see them at the Texas meet (see below) and he's offering kits.

2000, The Year For Z Events! - a blurb about the upcoming big one-day national Z Scale meet in Richardson, Texas, on 15 Apr 00, sponsored by Ztrack Magazine.  It will feature the huge Dallas, Mesquite & Garland modular layout.  Next, there will be a Z meet inside the NMRA national convetion at San José, California, from 04-06 Apr 00; Jeff MacHan will have his Val Ease Central set up there.  The third "really big shew", also out west {give us easterners a break, guys!}, is Märklin's Club Day in Los Angeles 19-20 Aug 00 {day?}.  [Let Rob K. know if you are planning to bring a layout for display at any of these shows.]

Z New Items Abound At Nürnberg! - the Toy and Train Fair was chock-a-bloc full of new Z releases - to be reported in the next issue.

Micron Art Previews Future Releases, Announces Price Increase for Built Up Models {this is more of an ad than an article!} - the water and coaling stations are NOT going to be remnufactured and will be collector's items {so, what's new in Z?} and the passenger station s prgressing; there is rolling stock in the future, too.

Adding Catenary to a Layout - Part 2 - Editor Rob Kluz expounds further on installing catenary (overhead wire).

FR Expand U.S. and European Line - Freudenreich Feinwerktechnik has U. S. 36' coke car (2-bay hopper with extended sides and ends), #ZF315, plus a Belgian State Rwy hopper and a Swiss Fed. State Rwy covered boxcar with brakeman's cab.

Märklin Announces Discontinued Items for 1999, 2000 and 2001 {2001?  That's a neat trick!} - huge list.

NEWZLINE

Märklin full-page ad for 2000 New Items - a Casey Jones train set, #81419, featuring the 4-6-0 IC #382 {the one that's a dead ringer for Westmodell's or v.v.}, one combine, and three coaches.

The Work of Paul Brooke - many photos and a trackplan of the cover layout built professionally for Bert Freeman.

Back issues of Ztrack currently available - see below.

INSIDE THE BACK COVER - full color, photos continuing the Brooke feature.

ON THE BACK COVER - full page ad for Reynaud's, with steam and diesel locos and German ICE and bi-Level trainsets on sale.

{Personal Comment - Rob is very much to be congratulated!  In no small part due to his efforts, Z Scale is finally getting on the map!  With his and Bob Marotta's and several other U.S.-prototype manufacturer's products, we have more and more from which to choose and we're on a roll!  Thanks, Rob!

How can anyone reading all this about Z and interested in it NOT subscribe to Ztrack? - SB,III}

MailBag - First of all, and VERY IMPORTANT, here is where the Stiskas warn of the new MRC Tech 4 Railpower 350 {so-called} "Z" Transformer reviewed in the Volume 5, Number 3, May/June, 1999 issue {WARNING! - This baby puts out enough juice to fry everything on your layout in one shot!  The Stiskas write on page 4 of this issue that it is rated at 30VA ("which is needed for D.C.C. or melting the tires off a Buick") but did not mention the output voltage - probably 12 volts or more!} - and miscellaneous letters.
