Insanity doesn't run in my family, it just sort of dawdles along.
Because the Apocrypha and Guest Apocrypha indices exceeded the capacity of the
individual pages, they are now presented in full on a separate

A major user of ALCo's lateral motion devices!
The Atom Bomb is a 4-16-8 steam locomotive with a two piece, articulated tender. The four axles underneath the cab, and all fifteen axles underneath the tender, are powered by electric traction motors. A computer monitoring system keeps tender wheel slippage to a minimum. There is no reason for a firebox with a Hafnium power plant, so that area has been replaced by a pair of generators powered by a low-pressure turbine that runs off of exhaust steam traveling to the condenser unit.
Although parts have been collected for constructing such a unit, nothing has come of the project. After initially designing the unit, SB engineers had an idea of a way to use the entire power of The Atom Bomb. Their plan called for an elevated four-track mainline that would contain no curves whatsoever {other than vertical - SB,III}. How would this be accomplished? By having it encircle the Earth. It would not obstruct roadways in any manner, thus increasing safety; and would cross the ocean on bridges high enough to allow ocean ships to sail beneath. Based out of Washington, DC, it would pass between Europe and Africa, and cut through the heart of Asia. Rail lines would spread from stations along the World Rail Ring to further connect people to the new service.
Both plans are being revised at the moment to minimize any safety hazards. The World Rail Ring is an incredibly vast project, and it must be almost guaranteed to be completely safe for it to be entirely effective. SB Locomotives, Incorporated is now seeking government and international support for both projects.
I'm pleased to see that Scott maintains a strong family resemblance in his work; here's an early effort I hadn't bothered to post but it makes a nice comparison - the Megaton A-1 Class 4-10-6 Dual-Purpose Steam Locomotive:
