Pistol Silhouette August 1, 2009 By Bret Stuntebeck
This month we had seven shooters put 22 guns across the line. The weather was excellent, almost too good. Temperatures by match end were approaching 90 degrees and not a cloud in the sky. No 40 shot this match. High scores for the match were Steve Mooney and myself in production, both shooting 38. The match was running a little later than usual, so rather than shoot off I awarded Steve the victory by reverse count (even though my two missed were due to rung rams). Doug Forsyth posted a UASHS-AAA score of 38. Doug commented afterwards that if the crosshair is not on the target when you squeeze the trigger, you don’t hit the animal. Well, that about sums that up. I did manage to edge out Steve Mooney in R-Int, posting a 35 to Steve’s 33. Steve was trying a new load out though. As for me, well, lets just say that when I got to turkeys my first few shot were helping George Holdaway out on his bank of animals . . . Oops! Joe Stumpf posted a U-AA 36, one more and he would have had his second leg into AAA. Maybe next time, Joe. George Holdaway managed to make it down from Canada to shoot with us again. Always glad to see George come shoot with us. George posted a UAS-AA 36, like Joe, one short of a leg into AAA. Nice shooting, George (no, this wasn’t the entry I shot his turkeys for him). On the Smallbore side, Vincent Leete posted a U-AAA 36. Joe Stumpf mounted a scope on his Buckmark to try an entry in UAS, posting a 31 for a first time out. I also shot my Browning in P-AA posting a 37 giving me my second leg into AAA. As usual, it was a great match. We all had a good time bustin’ steel. Thanks go out to our targets setters, who again did a fantastic job. Also thanks to everybody who showed up early and stayed late to set up and tear down, it really helps, especially this month. We haven’t had a match in a couple of months, and there was a lot of weed-eating to do at just about all banks of animals. The weeds growing on the top of the pig berm blocked the turkey line. These weed had grown about 5 feet tall and it took about an hour and a half to clear out all the overgrowth. The help is greatly appreciated. Until next time, shoot straight and be safe. |
