COMIC BOOK FLATS "150 CIVIL WAR SOLDIERS !"
The 150 piece Civil War Soldiers Set came in Blue & Grey. The Union Army & Confederate Army shared identical molds except for two pieces: Only the Union had the Monitor ship and only the Confederates had the Merrimac Ship.
Though smaller than some of the other Comic Book Flats Sets, the Civil War Soldiers Set still maintained very good detail - each figure had a distinct and realistic left side & right side (or front & back.) However, due to their small size, these figures were often the most prone to mold problems like having sloppy extra plastic "flashing" around the edges.
In the image above, each of the original 14 molds from the Civil War Soldiers Set is shown (in both Blue & Grey), along with their famous "GUN BOX" container which is shown from top, side and bottom. Note that the original mailing label and return address have no Zip Code. This is because Zip Codes were not used by the post office until 1963. Even after 1963, Zip Codes were still not utilized by everyone until they were mandated by law in 1967.
The figures beneath the box are shown next to a typical US quarter coin for size comparison.
Top Row: Officer, Sergeant, Sharpshooter.
Second Row: Scout, Infantryman, Bugler, Hospital Nurse.
Third Row: Cavalryman, Coast Mortar.
Fourth Row: Gatling Machine Gun.
Fifth Row: Field Cannon.
Sixth Row: Hospital Wagon.
Bottom Row: Monitor Ship, Merrimac Ship (Merrimac is spelled here with only a "c" on the end as opposed to "ck" because that is how it is spelled in the original Ads.)
