Ed Grenda

Products Ed Grenda is the founder, principal author and editor of the Worldwide Guide to Rapid Prototyping web-site. Previously Ed founded and was the CEO of Cambridge Technology, Inc., the world’s leading manufacturer of optical scanning instrumentation and now a division of Excel Laser. It produces the most advanced laser positioning systems available today. The company’s customers have included practically every research institute in the world and technically sophisticated corporations, both large and small. Under his direction, the company also produced instrumentation for physiology, immunology and industrial testing.

Ed was also the first VP of Engineering of the company that has evolved into the GSI Group, Inc. He established and led the engineering group in developing sophisticated optical systems for industrial, scientific and military use. The company is now one of the largest electro-optics manufacturers in the world with annual sales of more than $300 million.

Ed has extensive experience in the development of electromechanical systems such as printers, optical character readers and data collection terminals, as well as rapid prototyping systems from his work with other companies. He holds several US patents, MSEE and BSEE degrees from Northeastern University and several industry honors, including an R&D/100 award for optical scanning technology. He has published numerous technical papers and articles in the fields of servo systems, laser displays, optical scanning and rapid prototyping, and was a major contributor for several years to the Wohlers Report, the definitive annual progress report of the RP industry.
