(crank) FOR YOUR VINTAGE CAMPER _________________________ Please read our DISCLAIMER. _____________________________ Many of the 50's
and 60's vintage campers like the Serro Scotty, Airstream and others
used a similar Hehr window operator(crank) that was mounted in the
center of the window or other location. Over time these can
become hard to operate
due to age, dirt, etc or the gear inside will strip a little from being
tighten down. When this occurs usually you can not close the
window all the way and need a little pull to get it started to
open. If it gets hard to open due to age - you can try some
lubricant like wd 40 or other, but likely it will stop
working all together in time. Replacement window operators(small ones -
called
crooked little window operators) are available at Vintage Trailer
Supply and likely other places. Below are some pictures of the operator
and the window style. There are other window operators available, that
I have seen, but they have longer 'arms' and need to be cut to correct
length. But, I have heard they will work. These are a new
item and appear to be a good match. Current price $9.99 plus shipping.
As I understand the one below will work as is and they do make one with
a longer arm, that can be cut to fit the other window using the longer
arm. They also sell the replacement handles for window operators -
current price $2.95 plus shipping. And various other window parts.
