There are different kinds of batteries:
  • Lead Acid - two kinds :  starting and deep cycle
  • Some versions of lead acid battery: Wet cell, Gel cell and Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM)
All of these above batteries have different properties, uses, prices and sizes.  Normally when looking for a battery you want one with the greatest reserve capacity or amp hour rating possible.  Of course, this has some limitations like, size, price, application, etc. But, the amp hours or reserve capacity will tell you how much power and how long the battery will last.  IE: a 100 amp/hour battery will give you 5 amps for 20 hours or 20 amps for 5 hours or any combination..  This is ideally and perfect conditions, so the likely use will be somewhat less.

There is a lot of information about batteries that may help you decide what you are looking for at BATTERY STUFF  There is a good tutorial and links to batteries and other battery related things like, chargers and solar.  This site should help you find the info you need to select the battery and possibly a place to get it.
