Biloxi's Flags
The
flags below still represent the history of flags for Mississippi; however,
the
flags that once flew from a flag monument at the foot of Debuys Road
on the
beach fly no more. They were destroyed by Katrina along with the
concrete flag
monument. I don't know anything about plans to rebuild, but since
it was controversial
because of the Confederate flag, they may not rebuild.
This is the flag that I wish were our state
flag, The Mississippi Magnolia Flag,
or better yet, a flag with a large magnolia
in the middle.

This
flag, according to an editorial in The Sun Herald, could be
called
Mississippi's forgotten flag. It has the popular "Bonnie Blue" replica
in the canton,
a green Magnolia tree on a white field and red fringe (not
shown), it served as the
state flag from 1861 to 1890. Although the people
of the State of Mississippi were
allowed in 2001 to vote on which flag to
keep , they were given only two choices:
the present flag and an ugly, unmeaningful
one. They were not allowed to vote on the
Magnolia Flag. They chose to keep
the present one,
not liking the other option. Perhaps one day we will get
another chance.
After all, we are the Magnolia State.
