We began our trip in Cuzco, where we spent a day getting acclimated to the 12,000 feet elevation, and then went to Urabamba in the Sacred Valley. We were lucky enough to be in the valley on a Sunday and so we were able to visit the Sunday market at Pisac, the flip side of the quiet serenity of the ruins at Ollantaytambo, Chincheros and Pisac. The crafts market was filled with colorful stuff made to appeal to visitors. Even better was the local market, where the women were selling their onions, potatoes, corn and vegetables. It was a sensory assault of color, the smell of the vegetables laid out, and the sounds of Quechua and Spanish.
