My grandfather, J. B. Clark Vaughan, the only son of James Edwin & Katie above. J. B. Clark VAUGHAN-b. May 25, 1904, Richmond, VA.-d. Nov. 28, 1961, Norfolk, VA., he married to Roberta Lee Carter on June 12, 1926, Danville, Pittsylvania Co., VA., they had two children.
James Edwin VAUGHAN-b. Sept. 5, 1876, Manchester, VA.-d. Dec. 4, 1944, Richmond, VA.(see the Obituaries page for his and more obits), he married to Katie Belle HARWELL-b. May 23, 1874, Mecklenburg Co., VA.-d. July 10, 1953, Richmond, VA., daughter of Richard D. HARWELL & Antonia S. Cook. Besides my grandfather, J. B., they had a daughter, Thelma May Vaughan-b. Oct. 18,1901, Manchester, VA.-d. Oct. 30, 1972, Greece. Thelma married to Hubert G. Reynolds of Campbell Co., VA. on August 23, 1930, Washington, D. C., they had no children. Hubert died in 1971.
James E.'s father was Richard Holt VAUGHAN-b. July 31, 1846, Chesterfield or Dinwiddie Co., VA.-d. Jan. 28, 1925, Richmond, VA. Richard Holt was married to Esther Marian Clarke-b. Aug. 31, 1849, Chest. Co., VA.-d. Nov. 5, 1918, Richmond, VA., daughter of Edwin Harvie Clarke & Esther Hughes Cunliffe. Richard & Esther were married on Feb. 24, 1870, Chesterfield Co., VA., they had six children; Mary Alma "Mamie" Vaughan b. Dec. 25, 1870-d. Dec. 21, 1942; Lillie Linden Vaughan b.Oct. 2, 1872-d. Nov. 11, 1931; Clyde Susan Vaughan b. Oct. 1874-d. July 1931; James Edwin Vaughan, Jane Vaughan b. & d. Jan. 10, 1877; Richard Cunliffe Vaughan b. Jan. 6,1890-d. March 23, 1983. Richard Holt's father was James B. VAUGHAN-b. 1823, Dinwiddie Co., VA.-d. March 1868, Chesterfield Co.,VA., he married to Delia Susan Archer -b. 1825, Chesterfield Co., VA.-d. Feb. 28, 1865, Chesterfield Co., VA. James B. & Delia married March 1845, her maternal grandmother & his maternal grandfather were sister & brother. James B. & Delia had 11 children: Richard Holt 1846-1925; James B. b.1848-died infant; Martha Thersa 1850-1941; John Archer 1851-1910; Edgar B. 1853-1891; James Marshall 1856-1857; Mary b.& d.1858; Mary b.1859-d.before 1885; Josephine "Josie" E. b.1860-d.1940; James B. 1863-1900; Delia Susan 1864-1865.
James B.'s father was Lemuel Holt VAUGHAN-b. 1794, VA.-d. Feb. 1826, VA. Lemuel married to Thyrza Holt BOISSEAU -b. Feb. 12, 1797,VA.-d. Oct. 1827, VA. Lemuel & Thyrza were married Dec. 4, 1817, VA., besides James B., they had another son, Benjamin Boisseau Vaughan-b. Sept. 5, 1819, Dinwiddie Co., VA.-d. Oct. 18, 1881, Petersburg, VA., Benjamin married to Sarah Ellen VAUGHAN in 1842, Dinwiddie Co., they had 8 children.
Lemuel Holt's father was Peter VAUGHAN-b. about 1750, VA.-d. 1816, VA. Peter's first wife was Mary Goodwyn "Polly" Boisseau-b. about 1770, VA.-d. 1799, VA. Peter & Mary were married Oct. 1786, Dinwiddie Co., VA. They had six children; Martha Poythress Vaughan, Elizabeth B. Vaughan, Lemuel Holt Vaughan, Peter E. Vaughan, Ann B. "Nancy" Vaughan, James B. Vaughan. Peter VAUGHAN at one time was the Sheriff of Dinwiddie Co.
Peter's father was Salathiel VAUGHAN-b. about 1725-d. 1782, VA., his wife was Anne. Salathiel & Anne had at least six children;Phebe b. Nov. 1743; William S. b. Feb. 16, 1744/45 ; David b. 1749; Peter; Ephraim b. 1750's-d. 1843; Absalom b. Oct. 19, 1762-d. April 15, 1839. Absalom has quite a few descendants interested in their family trees! Katie Belle Harwell's father was Richard D. HARWELL-b. March 26, 1838, VA.-d. March 5, 1884, Lunenburg Co., VA. Richard D. Harwell served with the 3rd Va. Cavalry, Troop A during the Civil War, he enlisted May 14, 1861 in Boydton, Mecklenburg Co., Va., he became a paroled Prisoner of War on May 18, 1865 when he along with many others, was administered an Amnesty Oath. He had a disability from an injury to his left leg during the war, which apparently later made it hard for him to find work, he applied for an artificial limb in 1882. Richard married to Antonia S. COOK-b. Sept. 20, 1843, Mecklenburg Co., VA.-d. Aug. 22, 1921, Richmond, VA., daughter of Samuel A. Henry COOK & Ann J. EZELL. Richard & Antonia were married in a double wedding with one of her elder sisters, Lucy on March 20, 1865 at their mother's home in Mecklenburg County. Richard & Antonia had six children, one name unknown, the others were; Blanche Estelle Harwell, Annie Maude Harwell, Alma May Harwell, Katie Belle Harwell, Richard S. Harwell.
Richard D.'s father was Samuel H. HARWELL-b. 1805, Va.-d. 1847, VA. Samuel married to Marina COOK-b. 1806, VA.-d. unknown,daughter of Herbert COOK & Sarah Walker. Samuel & Marina married Jan. 1825, Mecklenburg Co., VA. They had five children; Mary C. Harwell, James H. Harwell, Minerva Adeline Harwell, Richard D. Harwell, Sarah Harwell.
Samuel H.'s father was James T. HARWELL-b. about 1786, VA.-d. 1808/09. James married to Mary Nance-b. about 1783, VA.-d. unknown, daughter of Isham & Nancy Nance. James & Nancy were married in 1804, Warren Co., N. C. Besides Samuel they had another son; Grief Harwell-b. about 1806, VA.-d. unknown.
James T.'s father was Grief HARWELL-b. about 1753, Brunswick Co., VA.-d. 1816, Mecklenburg Co., VA. Grief married to Anne. Besides James T., they had ; Thomas Harwell who md. Martha Smith, and Hannah Harwell who md. Allen Rainey.
Grief's father was James HARWELL-b. 1721, Brunswick Co., VA-d. 1770/71, Brunswick Co., VA. James married to Elizabeth in 1741, VA.,besides Grief, they had six other children; Cassandra, Elizabeth, Sarah, Mourning, James and Anna. James' father was Samuel HARWELL-d. 1767, Brunswick Co.,VA., he married to Mary, they had the following children: Honour; Frederick; Samuel, Jr.; Mary; Margaret; Catherine; Druscilla; James.
