Blaster's GeoBills
Here's an idea I came up with to add a little twist to
Where's George?. It involves using the eight digits in the
serial number on a U.S. currency bill as latitude and longitude coordinates, and seeing if
they locate a named
area (city/town) within the United States. The first four digits of the serial number specify the
North latitude, and the last four make up the West longitude. For added hit potential, the digits
can be used in the decimal degrees (DD.DD) or degrees minutes (DD MM) format. Here's an example:
Serial Number (ignoring letters): 42119534
Decimal Degree Format --> 42.11°(N) 95.34°(W) which locates Deloit, IA
Degree Minute Format --> 42°11'(N) 95°34'(W) which locates Ricketts, IA
Here's another example using 39769543:
Decimal Degree Format --> 39.76°(N) 95.43°(W) which locates the Everest, KS town center
Degree Minute Format --> There is none!!! Minutes cannot exceed 60. (To keep it simple, I don't allow
mixed modes within the same serial number).
And just so our friends out west aren't left out, you can use the decimal format
to achieve longitudes greater than 100 like this:
33471121 becomes 33.47°(N) 112.1°(W) which takes you to Phoenix, AZ. (Notice that an alternative longitude
of 11.21° would put you in the Atlantic Ocean!)
I don't have any real rules for how close the coordinates have to be to a town's actual location --
it's up to the individual to decide if there's an actual match. The point is to have fun and
maybe learn something new.
The primary reason for this site is simply to keep a list of all the GeoBills people have discovered.
I'm interested in seeing just how much of the U.S. we can cover. I really don't intend for this to
become a trading post where I match people looking for bills with those who have them. But if you care
to make one of your bills available for trade, I've provided for that in the section below.
So here's how it works:
-
If you have a bill to add to my list,
send me mail with the following details:
- Your name / how you want to be identified on this site.
- The bill's denomination (e.g. $20), and eight digit serial number (leave off the letters).
- The location given by the resulting latitude and longitude
- The coordinate format used (Decimal degrees or DD.MM) (If both DD.MM and decimal degree values
provide valid locations, please provide the two locations).
- Whether the bill is available for trade (if so, specify your preferred contact method: direct e-mail
address, anonymous e-mail link such as Wheres George ID, or through me).
- Any other information you want to provide.
-
To trade for an available bill, click on the bill owner's name. If the e-mail link doesn't work
(for whatever reason), please just
e-mail me directly with the necessary information.
- To remove a bill from the list or change its availability status,
send me mail with the details.
- I'm open to suggestions to improve this site.
Click here to send me any comments or suggestions.
I've provided some tools to make it easier to see if your bill is a GeoBill.

And many thanks to Man in the Wild whose Birthday Bills
site gave me many good ideas for this site. Check him out!!
