United States of the Arts
We'll sing this song and
we'll sing it again
A song about Freedom and
the power of men
To build us a New World where
pride is set free
Where all of us prosper and
show dignity.
So long, it's been
good to know you.
So long, it's been
good to know you.
So long, it's been
good to show you,
America isn't a country
apart.
We're the United States
of the Arts.
The song Woody wrote was
about the Dust Bowl
When the weather turned dry
and the wind took control.
It blew off the topsoil and
soured the land
It left family farmers with
no place to stand.
The Old World's had Wars,
Number I, Number II
When bombs reigned from airplanes
and warfare was new.
Europe was shattered, and
nukes stopped Japan.
And these weapons still threaten
each woman and man.
The New World's had Wars,
and known the rockets' red glare.
But our hemisphere's never
been hit from the air.
It's 'One' if by land, and
'Two' if by sea.
The whole world's 'Ground
Zero' when there's War No. III.
Columbus the sailor looked
East, sailing West,
And discovered the New World
ahead of the rest,
For Queen Isabella and King
Ferdinand.
But Amerigo Vespucci lent
his name to the land.
All the while Europeans tried
converting the beast
And the pilgrims left Plymouth
for their own savage feast.
And they plundered the bison,
and stole all the corn
And clipper'd great ships
'round the southern Cape Horn.
They looted great culture,
and put the Red Men to grave
In the name of the Freedom,
on the backs of their slaves.
A plague on the natives,
these thieves seeking gold,
With plantations of Black
Men who were brought to be sold.
The Spanish, the English,
Portuguese, and the French
Split the New World in two
with the Panama trench.
America North, and America
South!
Astride lofty mountains,
down the wide rivers' mouth'.
