George Washington
Every time you get
yourself
a dollar bill
George Washington's gonna
smile at you, and I hope he always will.
The Father of our Country
was a Virginian and a gent.
He was First in War
and First in Peace, and First for President.
George Washington, the
Father
of the U.S.A.
He settled in Mt. Vernon
with his brand new bride,
George and Martha
Washington
living side by side.
Until the Continental
Congress
called for him to lead the men,
and Washington the
soldier
donned his uniform again.
He stood with his
militia,
he surveyed and he saw.
He chaired a great
Convention,
turned Revolution into Law.
He served as Chief
Executive
past Seventeen Ninety-Six.
Then he bid Farewell and
warned us 'bout entanglements and tricks.
Each leap year is
election
year, and we all go out to vote.
To do our part to help to
keep the ship of state afloat.
One crewman is the
President,
he serves a four year term.
The leader of our Nation
must be dignified and firm.
We didn't want a
potentate.
We didn't want a king.
So we got ourselves a
Father
who could do most anything.
We erected a marble
monument
in City that bears his name.
But there'll never be
another
man to measure up the same.
The Father of our
Country,
you know they say he slept around.
That the "Buck Slept
Here"
is on a sign that often can be found.
We know he chopped a
cherry
tree and maybe more than one.
The Father of our
Country,
our Great George Washington.
