        Evening Classes In Modern Greek
Greek Conversation: Beginning Class # LA450 Tuesday evenings, 6:30 - 9:15 PM, from September 8, 2009 to December 8, 2009. This is the ideal Greek language class for people who would like to learn some Greek before traveling in Greece, or for people who have a Greek spouse or friend. There is extensive in-class oral practice of basic communications skills. These include greetings, buying food and eating out, numbers, directions, travel, transportation and reading signs. Students who wish to do so, can also do simple written assignments at home. 14 meetings, $360.00.

Greek Conversation: Intermediate Class # LA456 Thursday evenings, 6:30 - 9:15 PM, from September 10, 2009 to December 17, 2009. This is a class for people who know some modern Greek but would like to improve it. This class provides practice in communication as well as instruction in basic Greek grammar. Students go at their own pace. 14 meetings, $360.00.

Both Greek classes are taught at Marina Middle School (Marina and Fillmore), Room 220. Convenient MUNI stops and plenty of free parking! The instructor, Sophia Lenetaki, is a native Greek speaker and has taught Greek at CCSF for many years. The course fee is payable to City College of San Francisco. ($10.00 off if you enroll before August 31st). Classes are non-credit, un-graded and no official transcripts are created or can be sent to schools

The text book employed is Spoken Greek by Evris Tsakirides (University of Michigan Press) $31.95 with tax. It is available from the City College Downtown Campus Bookstore at 88 Fourth Street (at Mission) (map.) It is open Mon-Thur 9:30-15:00, and also during the first two weeks of the semester 9:30-19:30. Telephone ahead to 267-6585 to make certain that it is in stock. It is also available from Amazon.com and from Bookfinder.com. Recommended supplemental book: Teach Yourself Modern Greek, by S. A. Sofroniou, usually available from Amazon.com and from Bookfinder.com. It uses a more formal approach and is a valuable supplement for students who need explicit statements of grammatical structure.
