Javascript Archery Ballistics Calculator V2.08

You will need IE4 and above or Netscape 4.08 and above to use

Note: For calculating the Kinetic energy on an arrow at given speed all you need is initial velocity and arrow weight. Bowhunting World's Norb Mullaney does bi-monthly tests on bows that provide some of the data such as; Stored Energy(SE)-to- Peak Draw Force(PDF) ratio, Bow Efficiency, Virtual Mass, and Static Hysteresis. Bow and Arrow Hunting Magazine is also another good source, Emory J. Loiselle does similar test for that magazine.

For calculating arrow speed from bow specifications and draw weight you will need technical data available for your bow from tests done in the various archery magazines. Norb Mullaney does bi-monthly tests on bows that provide some of the data such as; Stored Energy(SE)-to- Peak Draw Force(PDF) ratio, Bow Efficiency, Virtual Mass, and Static Hysteresis.

To calculate the ballistic table , all that's required is required is arrow speed and weight plus fletching size and type measurements.

Calculations are based on models from "Exterior Ballistics of Bows and Arrows", W.J. Rheingans. Thanks to James Casady of Sonoran Bowhunter Products for getting me the text.

I'd appreciate any feedback on the accuracy, the numbers at least out to 30 yards seem about right for my bow/arrow combo. Just need to get someone to let me shoot thru their chrono at 100yds ;^)

Note 1: Add 5 grains for each nock and  kisser button, and plain peep. If the peep has a tube aligner add  10-15 grains. Add another 5-10 grains for string silencers depending on type and weight. Add  exact weight if known, although subtract a bit for silencers as they are very near the limb tip.

Note 2: For aluminum arrows you can calculate it as follows for a 2317 for instance, the first two numbers of all aluminum shafts represent the outside diameter of the shaft in 64ths of an inch. In this case 23/64ths or .359 in .
