Valmiki Maharishi

'I salute the sage Valmiki, who perches like a cuckoo on the tree of poetry, singing "Rama! Rama!" and who, though forever drinking from the ocean of the stories of Rama, is never sated'

"As long as the mountains stand and the rivers flow so long shall the Ramayana be cherished among men and women and save them from sin"
- Valmini Maharishi

In ancient India, Sage Valmiki lived with his disciples in a forest on the banks of the river Tamasa. They lived a life of meditation and prayer living in ashrams (simple huts) woven from tree branches, leaves and grass.

One morning, the celestial Sage Narada paid a visit to Valmiki's ashram. After receiving the Sage respectfully, Valmiki asked Narada: "O, all-knowing Sage, Tell me, Who among men is the greatest in virtues and wisdom? Who is accomplished, learned, powerful, beautiful, truthful, and cares for all creatures?"
