The Glory of Rama Nama
(by Mahatma Gandhi)

"He who does not see Rama, and he, whom Rama does not see, become ridiculed in the eyes of the people. Even his own self taunts him"
- Valmiki Ramayana

Due to the majesty of Rama-Nama stone-rocks strated floating on the waters; On the strenghth of Rama-Nama, the vanara (monkey) army succeeded in subduing the mighty Ravana and his army;

Depending on the Rama-Nama, Hanuman lifted the mountain and Sita could protect and maintain her faminine chastity even after living for several months in Ravana's Lanka.

Bharata could hold his life for fourteen long years because from his throat no sound other than Rama-Nama came out.

This is why, Tulasidasa has rightly asserted and prescribed to mutter Rama-Nama in order to wash away the filth of Kaliyuga.

It is my conviction that the pronunciation of Rama-Nama is of uncommon importance. If somebody really feels that the God is ever present in his heart in that case I feel that muttering Rama-Nama is not necessary for him. But, I am not sure if there is any such person on the earth. On the contrary, my experiences indicate that there is something very special, very uncommon and holy in muttering Rama-Nama audibly.

Why is it so or how is it so --it is quite unnecessary to know.
