Streets in Berlin were pounded by heavy military traffic for two generations. While the scenes of conflict, parades, and restoration have often been photographed, most of the time the military vehicles were involved in simple housekeeping activities. Food had to be distributed, mail brought to the soldiers, laundry turned in and brought out. This British Army truck is engaged in such activities on a summer day in 1969.
As an aside for hobbyists interested in historic military vehicles, Berlin units of the Western Allies were unusual, in that many of them were German-built. This was part of the complex agreements paying for costs of the protection of West Berlin.
