In September 2002, I moved back to New York City and began teaching Japanese at The Frederick Douglass Academy (FDA) in Harlem. FDA is a public school for middle and high school students. I was the Japanese teacher for 230 6th and 7th graders. I stayed there for one year. In September 2003, I transferred to the Marble Hill School for International Studies in the Bronx section of New York City. At the time of this writing (Feb. 2004), the school is in its second year and is made up of about 200 students in the 9th and 10th grades. The school will continue to grow by about 100 students per year reaching a maximum size of 400 students. I have about 100 students who study Japanese with me. I am enjoying my new school very much and am hoping to stick around for a while.
