“THE TRADITION IN TRADITIONAL MUSIC”
2008 will be a special year for JIM MURPHY & THE PINE BARONS. It will mark the 40th Anniversary of the founding of the band. In recognition of this achievement, singer-songwriter Jim Murphy was inducted into “America’s Old Time Country Music Hall of Fame” on August 28, 2007, during the National Traditional Country Music Association’s (NTCMA) annual old time music festival held in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Bob Everhart, President of NTCMA labeled Jim’s contributions to traditional music as “..astonishing, a traditional country singer with a capital “T”. Murphy is the first artist from New Jersey to be so recognized by the NTCMA, which has been inducting deserving artists since 1976.
This event attracted sizeable media coverage in the tri state area. Newspapers, including the New York Times, Star Ledger, Asbury Park Press, The Courier News, The Princeton Packet wrote feature articles to celebrate the Induction. Jim appeared on numerous TV outlets including NJ News Network. The New Jersey Monthly magazine featured the story in its December issue. Jim has been honored with Proclamations and Resolutions from the Governor, the State Senate and Assembly, the Ocean County Board of Freeholders, the Brick Twp. Council and Mayor, who designated August 31st as ‘Jim Murphy Day’ in Brick.
Jim Murphy & The Pine Barons continue to delight thousands of fans in the tri-state area with their unique blend of traditional Country Music in the bluegrass style. In 1995, Jim was invited to perform at the annual TMA Awards Show on the stage of the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN. Appearances at Sunset Park, Gatlinburg Civic Center, Longwood Gardens, Ocean Grove Auditorium, the PNC Arts Center, and countless concerts around the state have given The Pine Barons instant name recognition. Their latest CD, “GO NEW JERSEY” is receiving air play on several radio stations and is rapidly attracting attention around the State. “The Garden State Waltz”, featured on the CD, is attracting attention as the best candidate for ‘State Song’.
