CHARBONNEAU COUPLE TO
"HIT THE ROAD" FOR A YEAR!
Travel for a year? It is either
your fondest dream or your worst nightmare! For us, we hope it
is our fondest dream - we have certainly talked about it long
enough! In December, we decided what are we waiting for? We had
just retired in the spring, and found ourselves settling into
a new routine that could just as easily preclude such a trip as
when we were working. You know the drill - committees, clubs,
board positions, consulting, a second home, etc. - they all become
limiting factors to getting away. There are no guarantees in life,
and we concluded we'd better do it before something happens, or
we just get too old to make it a realistic option.
So, how DO you re-organize your
life, your family, and your responsibilities, to make a trip like
this possible? How do you decide where to go and when? Do you
like the sun or the snow? What do you want to see? How do you
stay in touch? What about your Charbonneau house - and any other
properties you have? What about the grandchildren-they grow so
fast? In the next 12 months, we will try to answer these questions
and more as we travel along, in a monthly column in The Villager.
We hope you will follow along and enjoy our travels with us.
Next month we will tell you all
about the preparation we've been doing, and then, starting with
the July Villager, we will take you along to see the USA - not
in our Chevrolet, as the old ad used to say, but in our 1997 PleasureWay
Van.
We chose this vehicle for its
ease of driving and parking, good gas mileage (wise choice, based
upon the latest developments with gas prices!), and its ability
to serve as a part-time home on the road. It is a small (19' Class
B) motor home, but fully outfitted with a compact kitchen, an
all-in-one bathroom (THAT should be interesting), a queen bed
(converts from a seating/dining area), a TV/VCR, air conditioning,
and all the hook up goodies of a large motor home.
We welcome your ideas, input,
and suggestions as we prepare for this adventure - and your email
as we move across the country. You can find us at carol.white1@worldnet.att.net.
We are working on a website - but more about that next month.
Get ready to "go" with us - we think we're going to
have a great time!
