Coffman - Ice Climbing
2005
There was indeed some great ice climbing in the winter of '04-'05, and
Kerry had the opportunity to head up to the Adirondacks three times
(each for two days of climbing): once in December of 2004, then in
January of 2005, and finally in February of 2005. A few of the
pictures from each of those trips are included below. Click
either a picture or one of the links to see more pictures and a
brief written description of each of
the trips.
December
2004 - Kerry had a chance to head up to the Daks just before
Christmas and had a two days of excellent (albeit COLD) of climbing.

January
2005 - Kerry had the chance to head back to the Adirondacks and
do some more ice climbing in late January (‘05) and got some incredible
climbing.
He climbed some GREAT and classic ice climbs at Poke-O-Moonshine, he
climbed in his new fancy stretchy jacket, and heard a bunch of great
stories about Simon Yates.

February
2005- Kerry headed up to Keene Valley at the tail end of
February (05), and climbed again with Ian for two days. The
weather was great, with it getting to zero or below at night, and
getting close to 20 during the day. Kerry climbed with his new
ice tools (Quarks with the new removable leashes) and a new harness
(that was easier to use with all the layers needed for the ice).
This trip had several climbs Kerry had never done before, including
several extremely hard and steep routes. However, the highlight
was doing an extremely hard and wildly varied climb call Power
Play. This was an incredible climb!! There is a nice photo
of that climb in January ’05 issue of CLIMBING magazine (p 63).
This climb was amazing!! It had a little bit of everything,
including having to stem up between two large hanging icicles!!
All in all, it was indeed a great trip.

Below is a link that takes you to a nice article that describes three
of
the very classic ice climbs in the Keene Valley area-

Also, over the past several years I've had the chance to ice climb with
several outfits. I list the links to the web pages for
two of them. The first one specializes in the Keene Valley
(Adirondacks) area, and I've climbed in the Catskills with the other
one.:
