Diving in 2002

2002 was a memorable year for diving.  There was some very good diving, but also it was a year
of tragedy with the loss of a very good friend and dive buddy:  Bill Schmoldt.   Bill died this summer
while diving the Andrea Doria, and he will be missed.  He was one of the very first people I met after
getting to NJ (I met him my second full day in NJ), and probably made over 100 Jersey dives with
him my first two seasons here (86-87).    We spent many a bouncing and wet day out on the old
Sea Tiger .......

IN MEMORY OF BILL

Although, there weren't a tremendous number of bugs (aka lobsters) that came up this season,
there were a few.  Below we show pictures of a couple of MUD (Metuchen Underwater Divers)
members with some bugs.  The first shows Brett and his son, while the second one shows Mike
with his "giant" bug (yes we did give him a magnifying glass for that one).

Below is a shot of Kerry heading up the ladder on the Diversion II during the summer of 2002.

During November, we (MUD) had our annual bottle dive, and this year was a banner year in that we had glorious weather
and some very nice bottles came up.  This year Kerry brought up a very nice Hutchinson Spring Bottle (circa 1885) that was
complete with the spring and stopper (a VERY rare find), along with a very, very nice ink well circa 1915, a blue glass caffeine
bottle along with several other bottles that pre-dated the 1920s.   Click on the below image to see a larger picture of the bottles
