2005 was indeed a pretty good year, with lots of ups and downs ... but
the ups tended to outweigh the downs. The royal llama (aka
Missy-Mutt .. see below photo) did enjoy surveying her realm during the
winter (while the loyal hired help worked), and Kari's broken leg
didn't really slow her down too much over the summer.
The year was highlighted by a lot of sporting/outdoor activities
and trips. Also, there were several major projects around
the
house including work on the roof, a COMPLETE replacement of the
heater/AC, along with a total upgrade of the electrical system!!

Clicking the various links in the below table will take to specific
pages that describe some of the highlights of 2005
As alluded to earlier there
were several trips into New York City
(Broadway plays such as Wicked,
Moving Out, The Producers, Phantom of the Opera; a couple of Yankee
games in the Bronx at Yankee stadium), museums, and in addition Kari
spent several days at Columbia
University for
a summer program).
Besides NYC there was a lot of baseball,
soccer & track,
climbing
(both rock
and ice), our summer trip to the Andirondacks, a lot of biking,
winter events (sledding and skiing), awards at school, a broken
leg, the Astros finally making the World Series, Kerry finally catching
a ball at a major league game (after trying for 40 years!!), hiking,
some great scuba diving
(including diving a corn field in Canada - it's
a long story), and of course work related fun (such as the "merger" of
AT&T and SBC).
It was a good "sport" season, with its highs and lows. Kari made
the varsity track team (as a Freshman) and was in the team's top two in
both the 800 m and 1600m. However, just before mid-season her
left fibula snapped during an 800m race. She did however finish
the last 110 meters with a broken leg, and was only a couple of seconds
off her personal best. Some folks are just too darn competitive. It did
end her track season (at least running the races) along with her
remaining Spring soccer season. She had played winter soccer
(with a PDA U19 Travel team), and did manage to get back into the last
couple of soccer games in the summer league. In the Fall, Kari
again made the varsity soccer team at high school. All in all the
Lady Eagles did very well. They got into the quarter finals in
the County Tournament (losing a one goal heart breaker), and also made
it to the State Tournament.
In the pictures below is a shot of Camden Yards in Baltimore (where
Kerry FINALLY caught a major league baseball), and Derek
Jeter in the batter's box at Yankee Stadium.

Tom had a good year with baseball. He played in the majors (12
and under) during the Spring, and in the Fall he made the jump up to
the BIG field (13-15 year olds). His Fall team was a great team,
and they ended up winning the Championship!!! This was the first
time Tom has ever been on a Championship team!!
Speaking of baseball, it was also a great year for watching
baseball. Of course the Astros finally made the World
Series!!! Kerry went to the very first game ever played in the
Astrodome, back in April of 1965 - a preseason game in which the Astros
beat the Yankees in extra innings as Jimmy Wynn scored on a double by
Nellie Fox!! We made it to three Somerset Patriot games (a
nearby minor league team) and two Yankee games in the Bronx. In
fact we saw Bernie Williams' last regular season game.
Kerry also had the chance to see the Yankees play the Baltimore Orioles
in Camden Yards, and after 40 years of trying finally caught a ball: a
home run hit by Jorge Posada during batting practice!! Above is a
picture taken at Camden Yards, along with a shot of Derek Jeter at bat
in Yankee Stadium.

Above we see Tom during one of our bike rides, and to the upper right
is a view of NYC (looking north) from the observation
deck on the Empire State building.

The above to photos were taken during our family vacation up to
the Adirondacks
in August, and the lower left shot
was taken during one of Kerry's ice climbing
trips. The last photo shows Kerry on one of the dives during the
Canada
dive trip to the Saint
Lawrence Seaway..
