Bison bison

The largest terrestrial animal in North America, 800-2,000 lbs. Once found in open plains, prairies and open woods from Ohio to Wyoming, Saskatchewan to Texas. In 1600 there were about 70 million. By 1900, about 1,000 buffalo remained. Today, over 30,000 thrive mostly in parks.

This common bat occurs throughout North America, especially in northern U.S. and southern Canada.
