A History of the Jarnagin Family in Iowa (1856-1996) by Jeri L. Corbitt. Synopsis: The Jarnagin family has been in Iowa for over 140 years. Most are descendants of John Jarnagin and Mary Smith. John was born about 1748 in VA. He moved to the area of TN in the late 1700s, and then to OH about 1805 (where he died in 1816). Over 1,300 descendants of John Jarnagin and Mary Smith are included in this history of the family, representing descendants of four of their (at least) nine children: Nancy (240), Mary (11), Isaac (750), and Eli (328). Today their descendants can be found throughout the U.S. and at least two foreign countries. The book is 6 x 9 size, printed on acid-free paper, hardbound, 511 pgs. Albert’s Hidden Treasure--The Study of a Texas Civil War Veteran by A. Jack Jernigan. May 1996. This book is about Albert Jefferson Jernigan, Confederate veteran, county treasurer and businessman of Austin, TX, who died by his own hand New Year’s Day 1897. The book is based on a series of autobiographical letters Albert wrote to his parents, who were residing on a farm near Springfield, TN. $18.76 plus $3.74 for postage/handling. Contact A. A Thousand Years of Village History--Somerleyton by Rev. Dr. Edward C. Brooks,  Rector of Somerleyton. Thirty three pages describing the founding and history of the village and churches. Contains a list of Rectors and Patrons from 1309-1969, pictures of Somerleyton Hall and churches. The manor was in the Jernegan family from 1305-1604. 2nd edition was published in 1979. Burch, Birch Family in Great Britain and America, Vol. I and II by Marilu Burch Smallwood.  This includes the family of Needham Jernigan of GA. At least three of the Burch children married into Needham Jernigan’s line.

Centennial History of Orlando by Eve Bacon. Published by Mickler House, Chuluota, FL, 1976 (2 volumes). This book is out of print, but there may be a few copies left at the Orange County Historical Museum in Orlando. Includes some photos of Martha Jernigan Tyler, and extracts from her memoirs. Jarnagin Collection by Glenn Susong Clark. This book is about the descendants of Thomas Jarnagin & Mary Witt; and John Jarnagin (brother of Thomas) & Mary Smith. The Jarnagin brothers were from VA, migrated to the Jefferson/Grainger Co. TN area. Later, John relocated to Highland Co., OH. This book is no longer in print. Jernigan and Cooper, Jones, Craig, Wesley, and Ellis by Virginia Ruth Jernigan Sanders. Published in 1996, this book covers the line of Moody and Martha "Patsie" Milton Jernigan of SC>GA>AL. Contact Virginia at Rt. 2, Box 218, Brundige, AL 36010-9331.

Jernigan Reunion by Lillian Jernigan Worley. A Gathering of Some of the Descendants of Thomas Jernigan, Immigrant 1635 of Nansemond County, Virginia. Particularly the Family of his Great-Grandson Henry Jernigan (ca. 1710-1783), Planter of Johnston County, North Carolina. With a Foreword by Marion Hargrove. Josiah Askew of Edgecombe County, North Carolina by Alice Ann Askew. The Askew family of Hancock Co. GA is heavily intertwined with the Needham Jernigan family of the same area. Kinfolks of Wayne Co., NC 1793-1832 by Joseph W. Watson. Lists many Jernigans who were among the early families in Wayne Co.

Leaves of the Jernigan Tree by Verna Thomas Jernigan. This book is about the descendants of Alexander C. Jernigan Sr. and his wife Elizabeth Farmer, who first lived in Johnston Co. NC and then migrated to the Coffee Co. TN area. This book is no longer in print, but the author has given us permission to make Xerox copies for interested parties. Marriage Records Clay County, Georgia 1854-1935 by Max L. Tatum.  Jernigans in this book have been extracted and printed in Vol. V of the Jernigan Family Home Page, dated Dec. 30, 1996, pg. 18.

Once Upon a Time in Tattnall County, Georgia by Charles E. Wildes. 1990. Contains extensive genealogy on Tattnall County families, including the earliest Jernigan listed, Aaron Jernigan, Jesse Jernigan, Sr. (1805--aft 1800). Pine Castle Families by William S. Morgan. Contains information on families who settled in Pine Castle (little town south of Orlando) prior to World War II. Most of them are interconnected by blood and marriage. Surnames include: Macy, Jernigan, Patrick, Ivey, Knudson, Mizell, Crawford, Hansel, Harris, and many, many others. Cost is $12, postage paid.

Soil of So. Illinois by Betty Renshaw. Includes about 5K names including the following families: Tanner, Clarke, Field, Carson, Harkins, Jernigan, Pickett, Dunham, Dawdy, Pew, Lind, Plumb, Harris, Wilkins and Kennedy. 400 pgs. with index and 100 pgs. of pictures. $44.00 for hardback and $29.00 for softback postage paid. The Land Between, A History of Hancock County, Georgia to 1940 by Forest Shivers. This book mentions Albert Jernigan and Dr. C. S. Jernigan. It shows the Jernigan homeplace on a map from the late 1890s. It also shows the location of several cemeteries. Published by the Reprint Company of Spartanburg, SC in 1990.

The Macy Family of Pine Castle, and Other Related Families of Central Florida by William S. Morgan. This book was published for a Macy family reunion, and gives genealogy of Macys since 1635 to present, plus genealogies of several related families from Central Florida. Surnames include Jernigan, Patrick, Ivey, Knudson, Mizell, Crawford, and several others. Fully indexed. Cost is $12, postage paid.

To the Bone, or Past! by Reba Powers. Reba writes, "I have tracked down descendants in my Jernigan line, generation by generation. Jernigan Family Bibles

These bibles are arranged in alphabetical order by first name of the Jernigan to whom the bible belonged. Either the original bible is in the possession of the Jernigan researcher indicated, or photocopies are in their possession.

Elvira Jernigin & John Hart. This bible is on file at the Commerce Public Library in Commerce TX. It was owned by Mrs. Ibah (Johnson) Browne, the great-granddaughter of John Hart & Elvira Jernigin. A copy of this bible is included in Vol. XI of the Jernigan Home Page dated June 27, 1997, pg. 2.

John W. & Nora (Haughton) Jernigan. This bible is now in the possession of Albert O. English of Clayton, GA. Mr. English is the grandson of John W. and Nora Haughton Jernigan, who lived in White Plains, GA, between 1869 and 1949. A copy of this bible is included in Vol. V of the Jernigan Home Page dated Dec. 30, 1996, pg. 5.

Rachel Susan Jernigan & Samuel Patton Stockton. Rachel Susan was the daughter of William Watkins Jernigan. Lists the descendants of Rachel Susan Jernigan and Samuel Patton Stockton. Wava Stockton, Email address wbstockton@qcsn.com, will provide copies to anyone who wants one.

Silas and Anna (Coleman) Jernigan. This bible first belonged to Anna Coleman Jernigan, then to her youngest daughter, Margaret (Maggie) Jernigan Cowart, then to Maggie’s youngest son, Eugene Cowart, then to Eugene’s only child, Eugene Guyland Cowart. A copy of this bible is included in Vol. X of the Jernigan Family Home Page dated May 30, 1997, pg. 2.

William Franklin Jernigan, son of Henry Hamilton Jernigan, and Josephine (Riley) Jernigan. Lists their children with births, deaths, marriages. Sharon Tingley has photocopies of this bible and will provide copies.
