New Airline Screening Rules and 8/22

Most of you have heard by now that liquids/gels/pastes have been added to the banned list for airline travel. For all the details and exceptions, check out the government's website at...
http://www.tsa.gov/press/happenings/threat-change.shtm
If you are leaving from a British airport, you should know there are reports that they are also confiscating books, and in some cases, not allowing any carry on bags at all (you have to treat them as checked baggage). Remember to be patient and follow the rules; they are there to protect you and arguing with them will only slow down the process for everyone. Some suggestions for working with the new rules...if you are going to buy a book, a paperback MIGHT be more likely to be allowed than a hardback. As soon as you get on the plane (as you pass the flight attendants), ask for a bottle of water or two; I think it'll be hard for the airlines to keep up with the demand at first. Use Google to search for the website of the nearest Wal-Mart, CVS/drugstore, grocery store to your destination to be able to purchase replacements at a lower price than at airport stores. Also check out our Back Issue Treasure section for an issue with more ideas on helping those security lines run smoothly. And, if you are considering traveling on or near Aug. 22nd, 2006, you might want to take info in this article...
http://www.opinionjournal.com/extra/?id=110008768 into consideration. Even if you aren't traveling, it might be worth a read as a precaution.

POST IT...in the yellow pages under your favorite "Travel Agent."

Google Earth

Ever admired how some of the TV news stations have those neat maps that seem to come from space and zero in on a location? Well, you can have access to the same type of program, but FREE! Go to...
http://earth.google.com/
Then you will see "Get Google Earth Free Version" in the top right corner of the screen. Be sure to check the info there to see if your computer is compatible with the program. I would recommend the "Current Stable" version, since "Beta" versions are usually still working the bugs out. You can type in your address or the address of your friends, family, work, tourist spots, and anything else you can think of, around the world. You actually almost feel like you are skydiving into the location. Lots of fun.

POST IT...on your computer and tell your friends.

Alzheimer's Store

For those of you dealing with the sadness of Alzheimer's, here is a great resource with lots of products that could help you or your loved ones through various stages of the disease.
http://www.alzstore.com/
You can look things up in sections by topic (forgetfulness, wandering, daily living, etc) or by stage (early, middle, late). Also a recent discovery is encouraging, that perhaps they may be on the road to finding a medication that may prevent, perhaps even reverse Alzheimer's. To read more about it go to... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14290153/wid/11915773

POST IT...on your computer, and in your medical dictionary/reference book under Alzheimer's.

Gym Locker Combos

School will soon be starting again & those kids will be having to remember book locker combos AND PE locker combos. While the book ones can usually be scribbled in a book or purse somewhere, the PE lockers are more problematic. Here's an easy way to help your kids to have the combo accessible to them. Write the combo (preferably in a reversed or mixed up order that kids can remember) on the under side of the bottom hem of their PE shirt with a permanent marker. So if they forget the combo, they can discreetly turn their shirt hem up to see the combo.

POST IT...with your kids' PE clothes or school papers.

American," Baked Potato & Leek Soup with Cheddar & Bacon, & More)
This back issue will provide info that can help you make it through the airport security a little easier. Or maybe you'd like to try a Treasure Hunt closer to home? Then check out our article on Geocaching, the kids will love it. If you're not interested in hiking through the woods, you can follow the "money trail" and enter your bills to see where your money has traveled. If nothing else, you can check out our review of a great cookbook and sample a recipe from the same. To retrieve this back issue, click HERE.
