Knockout Roses are very hardy roses that bloom from spring until the fall. You can get them in red, pink, or "blushing" (a white w/pink hints). The bushes get completely covered with medium size roses. If you deadhead them (pull the spent flower heads off before they turn into rosehips), then they will produce even more. It's also good to cut about a 3rd off of them sometime before spring, to produce thicker growth. We have 4 in our front yard and actually have had people stop in their cars and when walking by to ask us what type of rose they are. For photos go to... http://www.knockoutroses.com Check them out at your nearest plant nursery. POST IT...on your spring shopping list. * * * * * * * Bad Contractors WebsiteSpring gets many of us thinking about having work done around the house. Many of us also are wise enough to know when we need someone else to do the job. ;-) Be sure to check this website before hiring any contractors... http://www.contractorsfromhell.com This website should be read by everyone BEFORE they hire a contractor. It is an amazing resource of what to look for and what to avoid, also how to handle it if you have a problem with a contractor. So check it out. Also check our Back Issue Treasure section, which will send you to an issue that has guidelines on getting a deck contractor that can be used for any type of business. POST IT...in the front of your phone book. * * * * * * * Staple Those CouponsHow many times have you gone to pay a bill and realized that you left the coupon at home? Well, if it is a drop off type of service (dry cleaners, repair, etc), where you have a ticket and then go and pick it up later, then save some money by stapling the coupon to the ticket as soon as you get home. POST IT...where you keep your coupons or ticket receipts. * * * * * * * Dad's LabelsWith the kids starting to wrap up school and being home more during the summer, Dad (or Mom ;-) may discover, when they head for their favorite snack cache, that the kids have gotten there first. Kids have big appetites and sometimes their idea of what is an appropriate amount to consume at one sitting, may not be ideal. So to keep the tempers from flaring, get 2 boxes of Dad's favorite cereal (for example), and write with a marker on one "Dad's" and on the other leave it blank. Once the blank box is gone, they cannot start in on Dad's. This is also good for teaching kids to be more reasonable in consumption. Ice cream at our house is supposed to be an occasional thing, not a daily thing. But it was disappearing fast with each child claiming the other one was eating too much. So each child got a container with their name on it, and it had to last for a certain number of weeks. Once it was gone, they couldn't go into the other child's container. So who was eating it faster?...my son, who has now learned to slow down a bit to make it last longer.;-) POST IT...on your fridge. * * * * * * * Recipe: For Fun...Cola and MentosThis is a fun way to start off the summer, but make sure you do it on a warm day so you can hose off if you need to.
POST IT...on your calendar for the last day of school, or maybe on a To-Do list for the summer. * * * * * * * Back Issue Treasure: Multiple Recommendations (Finding the Cheapest Gas, Ultimate Moving Checklist, Finding a Good Contractor, Mother's Day Flowers & More)There are several issues that we think you would find helpful at this time of the year.
