And if you like what you read, be sure to pass it on to someone else who can use it. * * * * * * * My Favorite: Books * * * * * * * Happy News Every DayOne of the best things you can do before a social gathering, is to find 3 good things to talk about, some conversation starters. But as we've discussed before, most of the news we see is negative and of the it-can-happen-to-you(!) variety. But NOW there is a source for the HAPPY NEWS, news meant to "lift spirits and inspire lives." Go to... http://www.happynews.com You can even have the Happy News sent to you by email on a daily basis. Why not be more positive and make it a daily visit. POST IT...on your favorites. * * * * * * * Puppies for Christmas?First, I'd like to say, as I have before, that Christmas is not a good time to get new pets. BUT, if you are determined to get a dog for Christmas, please do so carefully. Obviously if you live in a one bedroom apt, then a mastiff is not a good choice. Or if you are a couch potato, a border collie (which needs a LOT of mental & physical stimulation) should be out. Save those hurt feelings of your family, AND the dog, by considering your choices carefully. In the past, we have recommended "Dogs for Dummies," as an excellent resource book on picking & raising a dog. Another 2 great resources are these dog finder sites... http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/search.htm http://animal.discovery.com/breedselector/dogselectorindex.do?clik=animal_leftnav And if it comes up with "no results," it isn't a glitch in the system, it probably means that with the way you answered the questions, you shouldn't have a dog. Do consider that some dogs are more likely to bite than other dogs. According to a past news article, German Shepherds are more likely to bite than any other breed. On the other hand, out of the 27 fatal dog attacks in the USA last year, 15-17 people were killed by Pit Bull/Pit Bull Mixes, 5 by Rottweilers, 1 by a Lab, and the rest by sled dog types. Please don't email me about your sweet pit bull or rottweilers, there are always exceptions, and it may or may not be caused by poor training on the owners' part. But these are the facts on the fatal attacks. To read more about it, go to... http://home.hamptonroads.com/stories/story.cfm?story=97006&ran=249564 POST IT...under "Pet Store" in the yellow pages. * * * * * * * Teen Drivers & Accident InfoFrom my experience, the part of drivers' education that covers accidents is not reaching the kids. In the 6 months, I have been around 3 accidents involving 4 teens, and none of them seemed to have a clue of what to do, how to handle it, or in two cases, even what their registration & insurance cards looked like. So please, if you have a teen, give them a private lesson on what to do. Have a checklist in the glove compartment and make sure the teen knows it is in there. Things included should be, how to alert other traffic to the accident, when to clear a roadway, what to expect when the police come, not to admit guilt (it may turn out they weren't at fault), ALWAYS to ask for the registration, license, & insurance card of the other person(that the other people may give false contact info if you don't), get witness contact info, etc. Here is a fairly extensive form, from the University of Utah. http://www.utah.edu/risk_management/forms/vehicle_accident_form.pdf POST IT...with your teen drivers & in your glove compartment. * * * * * * * Ultimate Diet Info SiteThe average person puts on 5 lbs over the holidays...and never loses it. For
me, all the sweet stuff that makes its appearance, at this time of year, is
enough to make me want to eat healthier. But if you are looking for the special
diet that will work for you, head on over to... POST IT...near your bathroom scale. * * * * * * * Recipe: In-a-Jar RecipesOkay, you're out of time to make goodies for gifts, so why not make goodies in a jar? Go to one of our favorite recipe sites... http://www.allrecipes.com And enter "in-a-jar" (include the hyphens, but not the quotation marks) in the search box. You will come up with a ton of recipes that you can put ingredients for in a nice jar or container. If you are short on cash, you could even put it in a big ziploc bag and tie a ribbon around it. Then the people can make the goodies on their own, at a later date...maybe when they aren't so sick of holiday sweets. ;-) POST IT...on your gift lists. * * * * * * * Back Issue Treasure: December 16th, 1997 Issue (Opening Presents/De-Cluttering Christmas, De-Cluttering Toys, Tips/Gifts, Thank Yous, Get Organized for the New Year, a Marriage Saver, & More)One of our most popular back issues at this time of year includes ways to declutter Christmas and toys, how much holiday tipping you should do, and thank you notes. My secret to being organized, for all those who asked, an easy marriage saver, & so much more. To retrieve this back issue click HERE. POST IT...by your computer. * * * * * * * Missing People: Adreanna Anita JacksonAdreanna (10yr-old, Native American female, reddish brown hair, brown eyes, 4'7", 78 lbs)was last seen December 2, 2005, in Lakewood, Washington leaving her residence in the Tillicum area.
