Low Carb Potatoes

Still on a low carb diet, but miss those fluffy white potatoes? Well, here's your solution. Sunfresh Of Florida now grows low carb, lower calorie, delicious tasting potatoes. You can go to their website... http://www.sunfreshofflorida.com  If you are looking for a place to buy them in your area, read the media story section, which lists stores, send them an email pschmid@sunfreshofflorida.com, or give them a call 904-825-0700. Some stories say they are available at some Target and Publix grocery stores. If worse comes to worse, and they aren't in your area, and you are in the continental USA, you can order 9 lbs for $16, and have it shipped to you. This is also a great idea for a gift for potato lovers on some strict diets (check with their physician of course). Even if they aren't in your area, keep on the lookout, they are continuing to expand in popularity.

POST IT...on your website, and near your calendar (for possible gift purchases).

Send a Cheesecake

From one diet extreme to another (although they do have the 6 CARB ORIGINAL CHEESECAKE made with Splenda)...if you are looking for a special hostess gift for that last summer barbecue, a special gift to send, or just a way to treat yourself before starting the next school year...the Cheesecake Factory may be just the ticket you are looking for. If you don't have one near you, the Cheesecake Factory is a full service restaurant, with a great menu, but the focus is on the 35 types of cheesecake that you can choose from. You can check their website for locations, and flavors. The Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough cheesecake, I can vouch for personally. I've also heard the Godiva Chocolate cheesecake is very delicious. If you aren't sure what flavor to get, you can send a gift card, so the person can order it themselves. Sadly, for our APO and international readers, they currently only ship to the continental USA as well. To read more about it, go to... http://www.thecheesecakefactory.com  Or call 1-800-330-CAKE

POST IT...with your birthday cards, or on the calendar, and definitely on your computer.

Emergency Sump Pumps

We still have four months left in hurricane season, and it is already off to a fast start. Don't wait to prepare, check out Back Issues on the web site and search for "hurricane" to pull up preparedness tips. But here's an item you might want to have installed now. Star Water Systems sells a sump pump that works by water pressure, not electricity. So if your power goes out, you don't have to watch your basement filling up with water. It is not designed to be a full time pump, but kicks in automatically when the power goes out. To get a better look, go to... http://www.starwatersystems.com/s1502homeguard.htm Just below the pump output section, you will see a place to click on the catalog link as well. If you don't have website access, you can call them at 800-345-9422. The company told me that they should be available through Lowe's hardware stores, although the one near us didn't know anything about it (perhaps because they haven't made it to all the stores yet). You can also call the company to find places that might carry it near you.

POST IT...near your sump pump, on your computer, and perhaps your shopping list. Remember, the rain won't wait for your power to return.

Meningitis Shots for Kids

Before your kids head back to school, make sure they are protected from meningitis. The American Academy of Pediatrics is now recommending the shots for children 11 & up...11-12 yr olds at their regular vaccination appointment, kids entering high school, or heading off to college. Meningitis seems to rear its ugly head more often these days, and a kid can be with their friends early in the afternoon, but by midnight they could have an amputated limb or be dead. And it is very, very contagious. Many doctors' offices don't have them yet, but you can usually find them at the local health department. Health Departments get very busy once flu shot season starts in October, so be sure to try to get any other needed shots before then.

POST IT...near your doctor's number, or on the calendar.

Recipe: Engagement Chicken

This recipe is supposed to impress men so much, that it makes them want to propose. We aren't so sure about that, but it sounds pretty yummy. So if you'd like the recipe, go to... http://www.glamour.com/doanythingbetter/food/050208feda2  For more of the story behind the recipe, go to... http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,156403,00.html

POST IT...in your recipe box.

MISSING CHILD: Lydia Bethany-Rose Rupp

Lydia (8-yr-old, white/Hispanic female, brown hair/eyes, 4'9", 85 lbs, scars on left cheek) was abducted from FERNLEY, NV on 7/22/05 by convicted child molester Fernando Ayala (AKA Aguerro, Gonzales, Pons, or Vega...47-yr-old, White/Hisp male, salt & pepper hair, brown eyes, 6', 175 lbs). They may be traveling in a silver-blue Kia Rio with no license plates. They may travel to Reno, Nevada; San Diego, California; or possibly Mexico (Tijuana in particular). This was a well planned abduction; Ayala took all of Lydia's documents (birth certificate, etc.) and most of the photos of her. For a poster to print out or photos, go to... http://www.ncmec.org/missingkids/servlet/PubCaseSearchServlet?act=viewPoster&caseNum=1019431&orgPrefix=NCMC&searchLang=en_US  If you'd rather not type all that in, go to... http://www.ncmec.org, Click on "More Search Options," and then enter in her last name in that section. For more about this story, go to... http://www.amw.com/missing_children/brief.cfm?id=33561

POST IT...in your car and business if you are in the area.

EDITOR'S NOTE: Some of you have tried to access files of children featured in past issues without success. This usually means the children were found and the files were removed.

Final Words

JOKE

"There's been a lot of stories about how I got to be called Duke. One was that I played the part of a duke in a school play--which I never did. Sometimes, they even said I was descended from royalty! It was all a lot of rubbish. (T)he truth is that I was named after a dog!"

--John Wayne

QUOTE

"Courage is being scared to death -- and saddling up anyway."

--John Wayne (1907-1979) (Actor, Producer, Director) Joke & Quote from Internet Movie Database entry on John Wayne. For more info about Hollywood, go to... www.imdb.com
