We recommend that you print out the ezine, cut out each entry, & post it in these locations to make it easier for you to find when you need it. And if you like what you read, be sure to pass it on to someone else who can use it. * * * * * * * My Favorite: Books * * * * * * * Excellent Fuel Price FinderWell, it isn't often that I update a topic in the very next issue, but this web site is worth noting. ANYTHING that can help us save money on fuel is worth noting. While the site in our last issue (www.gasbuddy.com ) is excellent, here is another website that can help you find the cheapest gasoline in your area. Go to... http://www.fuelgaugereport.com/ It is managed by AAA, and since they use the info from distributors, it is more accurate than Gas Buddy may be. Unfortunately it doesn't list the prices for all areas. Just another tool to help you save. POST IT...near the computer and your car keys * * * * * * * HDTV Suggestion Update
Susan from TN wrote and asked about our suggestion on buying analog TVs (if you
prefer them for various reasons), when it looks like everyone is going to an
HDTV signal. Actually that is an excellent question and I've been planning on
doing a clarification on the article. Originally they said that they would
continue with regular signals as well as digital, so that it wouldn't be a
hardship for all the people with analog sets. Now they are saying that they will
provide some kind of descrambler or something like that. Either way, the change
in SIGNAL (only having digital) isn't supposed to happen until sometime in 2008
at last report. However, the FCC dates and protocols seem to be in constant flux
on this issue. Now there is some talk that you will have to pay a low price for
the converter, and that they may extend the time before the full signal
conversion so that more people will have switched to digital by then. Here is
what the government website *currently* says..."When will the DTV transition be
complete? The target date for the end of the transition from analog to digital
television signals is December 31, 2006. That date may be extended, however,
until most homes (85%) in an area are able to watch the DTV programming. At that
point, broadcasting the current "analog" channels will end and that spectrum
will be put to other uses. Until the transition to DTV is complete, television
stations will continue broadcasting on both their digital and analog channels.
Will I need a new TV? Your current television will work as it does now until
analog broadcasting stops. Under federal law, analog service will continue until
most homes (85%) in an area are able to watch the DTV programming. Even after
the transition is over, your current TV will not become obsolete. A converter
box can be used to receive broadcast DTV signals and change them into the format
of your current television. In addition, if you use your analog set with a
multichannel pay service like cable or satellite, it will continue to work as it
always has. Even with a converter box, however, your current analog television
will not be capable of displaying the full picture quality of DTV. To enjoy the
full picture quality, you must have a DTV set. Subscribers to cable and DBS
services should contact their providers regarding converter boxes for those
services." I was just hoping that they'd finally make up their minds before I
did another article. But it looks like protests from the people & their
representatives make this a constantly changing situation. To keep yourself
updated, check out the government's official website on the issue... POST IT...on your computer and with your TV guide. * * * * * * * Perfume StrengthsEver wondered which type of scent was stronger...perfume, cologne, aftershave, body splash, etc? Well, while there are variations, depending on the manufacturer, here is a general guideline to help you decide which product to use. Remember, the purer the scent, the longer it will last, and the heavier it will be. Unfortunately the purer a product, the more expensive it usually is.
POST IT...with your perfumes, or gift lists. * * * * * * * Ratings for DoctorsFrom the people who brought you http://www.RateMyTeachers and http://www.RateMyProfessors.com, you now have www.ratemds.com As with the other two sites, these ratings are simply tools to help you find the physician that is right for you. Yes, there can always be a single person that writes a bad review, but usually if someone has a pattern of bad or good reviews, then it might be something to consider. Be sure to rate your favorite physicians and give credit where it is due. These websites help spread electronically, the same things that are often spread by word of mouth. Has a link to Canadian ratings as well. POST IT...on your computer, and in the yellow pages under "physicians." * * * * * * * Recipe: Easy Watergate Salad/DessertThis one has been around for a long time, but there are always people who haven't come across certain recipes. And with the revelation of the identity of the Watergate informer, it just seemed like a good time to share this one. ;-) Named after the dish that was a favorite at the Watergate Hotel.
POST IT...on your shopping list and in your recipe box. * * * * * * * Back Issue Treasure: August 6th, 2003 Issue (Family Flix Edited Movies, Sort Out Medical Claims, Helping Sitters Sooth Babies, Chocolate Éclair Dessert, & More)Head to this back issue to find out how to see the latest DVD movies WITHOUT the excessive language, nudity, or gore. Trying to figure out your medical claims or someone else's?...read our guidelines for doing just that. Use the perfume article to find out how you can help babysitters to sooth the children under their care. Watergate Salad just not rich enough for you?...then check out the Chocolate Éclair Dessert...all this and more in this back issue. To retrieve this back issue click HERE. POST IT...by your computer. * * * * * * * Missing Child: Richard Paul HollandRichard (7-yr-old white male, 3'5", 55 lbs, blond hair, blue eyes) was last seen at home (Williamston, MI, USA) around 9:30 p.m. on July 1, 2005. He was last seen wearing a grey shirt and red pajama pants but he may be wearing camouflage pants and a camouflage shirt. He was last seen carrying a blue backpack. Richard may be in need of medical attention (bipolar, ADHD). For a poster to print out, especially if you are in the MI area, go to... http://www.ncmec.org/missingkids/servlet/PubCaseSearchServlet?act=viewPoster&caseNum=1018213&orgPrefix=NCMC&searchLang=en_US Or go to www.ncmec.org Click on "More Search Options", then enter his name in the search box. POST IT...in your car and business if you are in the area. EDITOR'S NOTE: Some of you have tried to access files of children featured in past issues without success. This usually means the children were found and the files were removed. Final WordsJOKE (From Beverly P.)"Somebody said 'good' mothers never raise their voices...Somebody never came out the back door just in time to see her child hit a golf ball through the neighbor's kitchen window."--Elaine Long * * * * * * * Sponsorship InformationIf you are interested in helping to sponsor our ezine, or others in the Dollar Stretcher family, drop an email requesting additional info to: mailto:marketing@stretcher.com?subject=MAN.
