And if you like what you read, be sure to pass it on to someone else who can use it. * * * * * * * My Favorite: Books * * * * * * * "Irritable Male Syndrome"Does it seem that your husband (or boyfriend) has suddenly become extremely
irritable? When you try to bring it up to him, does he tell you that it is all
your fault...or the kids...or the boss? Have you told yourself that it will
pass, but it seems that you can hardly say a word without him jumping down your
throat? Or...are you a man that feels that anger or depression is a constant in
your life? Then you may want to order Jed Diamond's book, "The Irritable Male
Syndrome: Managing the 4 Key Causes of Depression and Aggression." The main
premise of the book is that male hormones fluctuate a lot more than most of us
realize. In fact, a middle aged male's hormonal state isn't much different than
a teenaged boy's (hence the similarity in the moods & wants of a teenage boy,
and a mid-life crisis male). Think that sounds crazy?...just remember what PMS
can do to a woman's moods. Women should also read this book for understanding
the moods, hopes, fears, and dreams of the men they love. Many women in these
situations do love their husbands very much, but build up walls after being
snapped at too many times. Walls aren't going to make things better. The book
does have a section specifically for wives, but I truly believe wives would
benefit from reading the whole book. It would help wives to understand the
problem, find things that may help, not take it personally, and help keep those
walls from going up. Sadly, denial is a major aspect of this syndrome, which may
keep the very men who need it the most, from reading the book. But if you are a
man, and it seems that you are in a constant state of irritation, but it is
always someone else's fault, ask yourself if you would like to be in a happier
state. Wouldn't you like things to be better? Happiness may be more in your
hands, than you realize. While I don't agree 100% with all of the author's
conclusions, and I feel it does head off on some political & religious tangents
at times, the vast majority of the book is a treasure that can truly help a
marriage, even if only one spouse reads it. I also think it would be perfectly
appropriate for teens, for boys to understand what's going on BEFORE they reach
serious denial/depression, and for girls to understand what may be going on with
their dads or brothers. Some of his discussions would be beneficial to anyone's
own personal life as well. The idea that certain therapies that continue to
rehash the same negativity over and over again, rarely helps anyone to get past
the negativity...the observation that most negative feelings are a result of
going into past experiences. Think about the last time you were angry, upset, or
irritated...didn't you find yourself rehashing a history of the problem, rather
than dealing with the current one? The book does not condone or excuse irritated
behavior, but helps us understand. If a small child is sleepy and acts up, we
may not excuse the behavior, but knowing the child is tired helps us to be more
understanding, and better able to deal with the situation. Don't let this day go
by without ordering this book. You can read more about it (or order it) at this

POST IT...on your shopping list. * * * * * * * Free Ice CreamMark April 19th down on your sweet tooth calendar, Ben & Jerry's will be giving out free ice cream cones (yes, ice cream included) from Noon until 8pm. You can go to www.benjerry.com to find the closest Ben & Jerry's to you, and make sure they are a participating store (a few stores do not participate in Free Cone Day. POST IT...on your calendar. * * * * * * * Pasta and ScissorsOkay, all the Italian food purists should probably skip this article. But for the rest of us, who are tired of struggling with long strings of pasta, or cutting it up for our children on their plates, or seeing it flip sauce onto that white outfit, here's a tip to take you away from all that. Once you have finished cooking your lengthy pasta, take a pair of kitchen scissors (or a clean pair of regular scissors) and cut several times through the pasta while it is still in the pan or colander/strainer. This would also work for oriental noodle dishes (most Korean restaurants already scissors for Bulgogi anyway :-). POST IT...with your colanders. * * * * * * * Buy Sudafed & More NOWIf you are a fan of Sudafed, as we are, or any other product with pseudoephedrine, you might consider stocking up now. Most states already limit the amount of product you can buy at one time, but now some states are pulling the product completely and may go back to requiring a prescription, which often may mean the expense of a doctor's visit as well. In case you missed it, certain illegal drug dealers use the pseudoephedrine products to make methamphetamine (also known as Speed). Some of these brand name products may also have this ingredient...Actifed, Zyrtec, Nyquil, Claritin, Dimetapp, and Tylenol Cold products. So check the label, if a product you use has the ingredient, you might consider stocking up, but do make sure to check expiration dates to make sure it won't expire before it can be used. And remember to keep all medicines out of reach of children. POST IT...in your medicine cabinet. * * * * * * * Recipe: Bleu Cheese Chicken PastaCook 16 oz box of dry fettuccine according to package directions. Once pasta has been drained, add the following to the pasta, in order, and stir well after each ingredient...4 1/2 tblsp of oil (olive preferred), 3 tblsp balsamic vinegar, 1/2 heaping tsp of garlic powder, 2 tblsp dried basil, 1 lb more or less as preferred of cooked chicken cut into small chunks (can be cooked separately in microwave or another pan while the pasta is cooking...see first step), 9 oz can/jar of sliced mushrooms, two 15 oz cans of diced tomatoes, and 3/4 tsp salt (optional). Once heated through, stir in 4 oz crumbled bleu cheese. Serves about 6. This recipe was inspired by the Pillsbury Bake Off "Tuscany Pasta Toss" recipe at this link... http://www.pillsbury.com/recipesearch/showRecipe.asp?recipeID=21939 But our Make a Note editor is always looking for ways to adapt recipes for shortcuts, easy preparation, and leftovers. POST IT...on your shopping list, and recipe box. * * * * * * * Back Issue Treasure: October 18th, 2000 IssueTax time can make us more aware that we need to watch our bills very closely. Go to this back issue for guidelines on checking medical bills. Medical Billing Advocates of America (MBAA) not only will go over a hospital bill for you, whether you are an individual or a corporation, but has now added Consumer Seminars to their services. This would be an ideal community service event for churches, service groups, or family health support organization (groups that have family members with particular ailments). So check out their services before you pay over $1000 for a toothbrush. This back issue will also point you to a web site that has great info for traveling in the USA, with state web sites, events, and so much more. Summer is coming, so you might also want to check out the article on MindWare kids programs & toys. All kinds of games and toys that truly s-t-r-e-t-c-h those young brains in new directions. * * * * * * * Missing Child: Pamela WaldherPamela Waldher (white 16-yr-old female, 5'7", 115 lbs, brown hair, blue eyes)
was last seen in Fayetteville, NC on January 22, 2005. Pamela may still be in
the local area, or she may have traveled to the state of Washington or to
Chicago, Illinois. Pamela's nickname is Pam. At first they thought she was
simply traveling to WA to visit her grandparents where she lived previously, but
her backpack and clothes were found in mid-February on Ft. Bragg (Army base in
Fayetteville), and she never reached her grandparents. So she is now considered
Endangered Missing. For photos go to... Or go to www.ncmec.org , click on "More Search Options" and then enter "Waldher" under "Last Name," then click on "View Poster." POST IT...in your car or business, esp. if you are in the area between (& around) Fayetteville, NC and WA/IL. Final WordsJOKEWhen a spoiled teenaged beauty pageant contestant ends up in the hospital
after a seizure, she seems to recover quickly, but is kept overnight for
observation/tests. Her doctor gets a 911 page, and runs to the girl's room. When
the doctor breathlessly runs into the room, the girl explains that she was bored
and wanted the doctor to do something about it. After a lecture from the doctor
on true patient "needs," she is told to go to sleep (since it is the middle of
the night). The girl says she can't sleep, because her "head is too full." The
doctor replies, "It's called thinking, go with it."
