Many of us have heard of family members who are either injured or fall ill, far from home. Sometimes the medical care in the area is inadequate, or there is a language barrier. Not only that, but the family usually has only 2 expensive choices...they can either pay their way to the injured family member and the costs of hotels for the often long recuperation, or pay $75,000 or more for private medical transport to get the loved one to a hospital near home. Considering that 1 in 30 international travelers end up needing emergency care, you can get your loved one to a hospital near home for a very low fee, IF you plan ahead. Med Jet Assist is an annual travel membership program, that is sort of like medical transportation insurance. An individual pays about $200/yr (more or less depending on age, length of time away, and type of plan) and if they are hospitalized, but are stable enough to be transported, Med Jet Assist will usually launch a pick up flight within hours of your contacting them. There are certain restrictions...they will not go into war zones (although if patient can get transport to a non-war area, then they can pick you up from there), the transport must be from inpatient at one hospital to inpatient at another, and must be at least 150 miles from home (yes, they will transport stateside as well). This seems like a VERY reasonable price for the assurance of transport if anything happens. They do have corporate rates available as well. This would be ideal for students/employees traveling out of the area, missionaries, and vacation travels (family plans available). Some elderly people often quit traveling because of fears of becoming sick/injured on a trip; this might provide the assurance they need to continue to be active in their travels. For more info, go to... http://www.medjetassist.com/ But PLEASE do not call them AFTER the person has already been hospitalized, coverage must be purchased before any hospitalization. POST IT...in the yellow pages under "Travel Agencies," or with your
passport. * * * * * * * Feeling Unappreciated? It is likely that ALL of us have felt unappreciated at many times in our lives. We do something special, or take on a big task, and often it seems that no one notices. But how often have we neglected to let someone know how much WE appreciate THEM? We can't make others show appreciation for what WE do, but we can show appreciation for OTHERS. As one of your New Year's resolutions, why not pick out one person every month to show your appreciation to? Think of how we feel inside when someone shows appreciation for us...wouldn't it be wonderful to give someone else that gift? So the first of every month, pick a person and either tell them, call them, give them a card, or small gift and let them know they are appreciated. You will brighten someone else's day, and may enjoy it so much, you may decide to do it weekly! Need help with who to pick, here's some ideas: teachers, waitresses, neighbors, people at your house of worship, co-workers, that lady that always has a smile & a wave, the person who fixes their yard so nice that it makes you enjoy passing by, bus drivers, the cop on the corner, the clerk/salesman, the person at the coffee shop, and so many more. You may find that it truly is better to give than to receive. POST IT...on your calendar, the first of each month. * * * * * * * Blowing Out Candles W/Out Spraying WaxThis is an easy trick to blow out those candles without spraying wax all over the table. Make a fist, then hold up your thumb. Approach the candle from the side, not from above. Place your thumb near the flame, where your thumb blocks your view of the flame. Blow AT your thumb. The air will curl around behind your thumb putting the flame out, but will block enough of the air to keep wax from splattering out. POST IT...with your candles and/or matches. * * * * * * * "Small Steps" to HealthSomeone once said that when trying to save money, if you work hard at saving cents, the dollars will take care of themselves. The same is often true of any task, that if you work on the little things, the big things take care of themselves. So if your resolution involves health/fitness, check out this web site with lots of little steps to get your started... http://www.smallstep.gov/sm_steps/sm_steps_index.html POST IT...with your exercise books/tapes, or on your fridge. * * * * * * * Recipe: Tri-Color RisottoThis is my version of a recipe featured in Swanson publications. Final WordsJOKE (After his first screen test)"The studio guy told me, 'Kid, you have no future in this business.' I said, 'Why?' He said, 'When Tony Curtis first walked onscreen carrying a bag of groceries -- a bag of groceries -- you took one look at him and said, 'THAT'S a movie star!' I said, 'Weren't you supposed to say, 'That's a grocery delivery boy?" --Harrison Ford (1942- ), actor QUOTE"I've learned that success comes in a very prickly package. Whether you choose to accept it or not is up to you. It's what you choose to do with it, the people you choose to surround yourself with. Always choose people that are better than you. Always choose people that challenge you and are smarter than you. Always be the student. Once you find yourself to be the teacher, you've lost it." --Sandra Bullock (1964- ), Actress, who recently donated $1 million of her
