Keyless Remote Problems

If you have a car with a keyless remote, or are considering the purchase of the same, then you might want to take this info into consideration. In many parts of the USA, there have been sporadic problems with keyless remotes (and garage door openers for that matter). Keyless remotes use a very weak "radio" signal to send the message to the car, but many remotes operate on frequencies that are used worldwide for military communications. If a strong military signal is being sent out at the time you are trying to use the remote, then it can overwhelm the remote signal and the remote will not work. With some vehicles, you can simply use a regular key; but in some cars the remote is needed to turn off alarms or start engines. This problem could affect just about any make or model car. When these problems occur, the dealers are swamped with calls from customers wanting to know what is going on. So if you are considering purchasing a vehicle with a remote connected to alarms or engines, then ask them if they have had problems in the area with this type of thing. Problems have been reported in Waldorf MD, Las Vegas NV, Bremerton WA, and Eglin AFB FL, among other places. It may be more of a problem where a military base is nearby.

POST IT...under car dealers (if you might buy one in the future), or in your glove compartment if you have a vehicle with a keyless remote already.

Hamster/Gerbil "Condo"

Tired of cleaning of bedding from your hamster or gerbil cage? Try using an aquarium to cut down on the "fall out." They make lids to fit aquariums that are being used for hamsters/gerbils. If you really want to go the extra mile (and keep those gerbils from chewing a hole through the new lid), go to the gerbil/hamster "condo." This is a cage that is the size of an average aquarium, but it fits on top of the aquarium and has ramps and platforms for the critters to climb and rest on. It has a cage lid on top. This will practically double their "play space" and make the critters more fun to watch than TV. :-) Check with your local pet stores.

POST IT...on your shopping list, or under "pet supplies" in the yellow pages.

Scar Helps

The Make a Note was recently sent some samples of the new scar reducing products and here are the results of our unscientific trials. We found that the scar reducers that look like band-aids and were supposed to stay on for 3-4 days, didn't even stay on for the night. The scar reducer that you apply as a gel & leaves a coating worked pretty well. But what seemed to work even better was just using aloe gel. The aloe seemed to work as well as the gel, but faster, and is a lot cheaper. The scar reducers say that they are only designed for raised, darker scars, not light colored flat scars. The aloe seemed to even help the flatter light colored scars. Our tester also found that the aloe seemed to lessen acne breakouts, and may have even lightened some spider veins. Check out the products for yourself and go with what works best for you. And always check with your doctor before trying any medical products or procedures.

POST IT...with your band aids or on your shopping list.

Windshield Wiper Helps

Fall is coming and in many parts of the world that means more rain. Are your windshield wipers a little weak after all the summer heat? Try gently rubbing the wipers with some light sandpaper to get rid of any buildup or residue. Make sure that all SANDPAPER RESIDUE has been wiped off before using. You can also try wiping the wipers with straight vinegar on a cloth. Vinegar will also help to cut road oils and grease. One of the biggest problems with wipers today is that many people use the automatic car washes. These car washes often apply a "wax" coating that also coats the wipers and can cause less than a clear performance. So try the vinegar and/or sandpaper before rushing out to buy a new set.

POST IT...in your glove compartment, or with your car wash coupons.

Final Words

JOKE (But very true)
