NOTE: Each entry has a suggested "POST IT..." location at the end. We recommend that you print out the ezine, cut out each entry, & post it in these locations to make it easier for you to find when you need it. And if you like what you read, be sure to pass it on to someone else who can use it. * * * * * * * My Favorite: Books * * * * * * * Comprehensive Visa SiteIf you plan on traveling outside of the country you call home, then you need to bookmark this site on your computer. Go to http://www.zvs.com To find out everything you need to know about Visas. You can print out forms to send in, be directed to online application sites, or even be told a Visa isn't needed. You can enter in what country you are coming from and where you want to go. This is definitely our "Go To" site for Visa info. POST IT...on your computer, in the yellow pages near your travel agent's number, or with your passport. * * * * * * * Star NotesEver seen a Star Note? If so, hope you hung on to it, and didn't spend it somewhere. After USA bills (paper money) are printed and wrapped in bundles, they go through a final check. If any of the bills are unacceptable, they are removed from the bundle and a Star Note is put in its place. This doesn't happen very often, so the Star Notes become collector items. To see if you have a Star Note, check all your USA bills (all denominations) by looking at the serial number. If there is a Star instead of a letter at the end of the number, then you have a Star Note. Check with collectors for value, or hang on to it for your own collection. You might especially want to spread the word to people who work as cashiers. POST IT...in your wallet. * * * * * * * One Day for SugarMany of us go through the sugar battle either with our kids, or with ourselves, but here's an idea that might give you the best of both worlds. Tell yourself, or your children, that you won't have any sugar 6 days a week, but on the 7th day, you will allow as much sugar as desired. Now this may seem a recipe for disaster, but if you are like most people, you'll actually end up eating a lot less than you think. Most people find that when you don't eat sugar for 6 days, you actually don't feel like eating as much when you get to that 7th day, and a little bit will go a long way. Chances are that you also won't be able to eat near as much sugar in one day (even if you did feel like it), as you would in 7. For adults it should be easier to forgo sugar if you know that you will be able to eat it once a week, for kids the idea of unlimited sugar (within reason of course) may also prove a strong incentive. POST IT...on your calendar. * * * * * * * Patriot GameTeachers, heading back to school and looking for a fun way to teach kids about American history & culture? Or are you a stamp collector? Or just a family looking to learn about the good, old USA? Either way, you might want to consider buying the Patriot Challenge Game. This game, for 3-6 players 10-years-old and up, uses postage stamps to teach you things about the USA...its history, national parks, our government, culture, and more. Questions have 3 levels of difficulty (basic, challenging, expert) and you can also team up to answer questions. You can also get bonus points for having participated in certain events, for singing a song, or giving your opinion on an issue. The game runs about $35 and can be purchased in some game stores, or online at... http://www.patriotchallenge.com Contact the company through their web site for international orders. Orders can also be placed by calling 949-837-7444. POST IT...on your shopping list (Christmas is coming), or in your history book. * * * * * * * Recipe: Shepherd's Pie
POST IT...in your recipe box & shopping list. * * * * * * * Back Issue Treasure: Christmas Checklist (Yes, already :-)It is that time of year again! Yes, time to start our always popular Christmas Countdown List. Our readers who have followed the checklist have told us how nice it was to spread things out and to have everything done by Thanksgiving. Even those who partially followed it, have said that it helped. You can go straight to our web site, click on "Bonus Page", and then scroll down to the list. POST IT...on your computer and on your calendar. * * * * * * * Missing Child: EMILY SEREBRYAKOVEmily (3-YRS-OLD, biracial...black & white, black hair, brown eyes, 3', 33 lbs) was abducted from DOCKTON, WA by her non-custodial mother, Charmaine Brown (23-yr-old, black female, black hair, brown eyes, 5'5", 160 lbs) on 7/17/04. EDITOR'S NOTE: Some of you have tried to access files of children featured in past issues without success. This usually means the children were found and the files were removed. Final WordsJOKE (for all computer users who have felt like doing the same)George D. shot his laptop computer four times, as customers watched, after it crashed once too often. He was jailed on suspicion of felony menacing, reckless endangerment and the prohibited use of weapons. "It's sort of funny, because everybody always threatens their computers," said police Lt. Rick B., seconds before his own police computer froze at police headquarters. George was released after spending a night in jail and is due in court. In police reports, George said that he realized afterward that he shouldn't have shot his computer BUT AT THE TIME IT SEEMED LIKE THE RIGHT THING TO DO. :-) --from a local TV news story.
