find out the movie you wanted to see was sold out? Or perhaps you've stood in
that long line and ended up missing the first part of the movie you wanted to
see. Here is a site to take you away from all that. Fandango POST IT...in your computer favorites, and in the yellow pages under "theatres". * * * * * * * "Say Goodbye to Whining..."There are a lot of books out there on how to raise your child. Some of them are totally worthless, others may produce a few small nuggets of wisdom, and then there are the treasures...those books that are sure to provide huge changes for the better in families when their principles are faithfully put into practice. This book IS one of those books, with a very practical title, "Say Goodbye to Whining, Complaining, and Bad Attitudes...in you and your kids!" by Scott Turansky and Joanne Miller. When I read this book it helped me to see that while my kids were pretty well-behaved most of the time, they were missing the point that they shouldn't just be obeying to avoid getting in trouble, but that they should BE honoring to their family and to others. So while we were preventing the negatives, we weren't really replacing it with the positive actions. It also was a good reminder that honor works both ways and children need to feel like you are honoring them, as well as expecting them to honor you. I love their definition of honor..."Treating people as special, doing more than what's expected, and having a good attitude." From day one, I could see changes in my children's attitudes as we implemented the ideas in the book. There is so much good material in this book that it left me wanting a Cliff's Notes for the book, but since that is not available, I recommend reading it with a highlighter and a notepad to take notes on. So if your family life resembles a more chaotic version of "Family Feud" or if your kids behave well, but seem to be missing the point of honoring their family, or anything in between, I would recommend this book for ANYONE with children. Don't miss out on the wisdom the authors have been generous enough to share with us. The book also has study questions at the end of each chapter that make it easily adaptable to Bible Studies AND ideas for Family Activities. The authors do seminars as well, and if they are anything like the book, then your community can only be the better for having one. For more info, or to order the book, you can go to their web site at... www.biblicalparenting.org. The web site also has video clips, resources exclusive to their site, and you can sign up for a free twice weekly email with parenting tips. POST IT...on your shopping list, computer favorites page, READ IT AND PUT IT INTO PRACTICE! :-) * * * * * * * Excellent Candy for GiftsFor our readers who are starting our Christmas Countdown list by evaluating their shopping lists, or if you just want a source for well priced boxes of candy, this is YOUR site. So many of the food catalogs that people order from during the holidays tend to be very deceptive. It may look like a GIANT tower of treats in the catalog photo, but when it arrives, it may all fit into a standard shoebox. Plus, it usually has a GIANT price that you feel SHOULD generate a GIANT tower, NOT a shoebox. But if you are looking for a company that will wrap, ship, and mail candy for you for a reasonable price, then try http://www.russellstover.com/. They have a wide assortment, including sugar-free products that my mom claims to be the first she has tried that TASTE like the "regular" versions, low-carb candies, and if you are sending it some place hot they will even pack it with cold packs for no extra charge. Their service is excellent too. So give them a try & let me know what you think. If you don't have web site access you can call them at 1-800-777-4028 to request a catalog or order by phone. POST IT...on your shopping list, in your computer favorites section, in the yellow pages under "gifts," "florists," and "candy." * * * * * * * Frizzy SolutionsGrowing up in the dry air of Southern California, I never had to worry about my naturally curly hair frizzing. But then I met a wonderful military man who took me away from all that and we only seemed to get stationed in humid places, and then retired in humid Virginia. Needless to say, the frizzies are a problem. I have tried just about every solution & product under the sun, but I've come to the conclusion that different solutions work for different people. For me personally, the Infusium 23 Moisturizing Shampoo, Conditioner, and Leave-In Treatments (used w/each shampoo) seem to produce the best results. But if you would like a few more things to try then the Dollar Stretcher ezine's web site has an extensive assortment of suggestions from readers. So check it out at... http://www.stretcher.com/stories/03/03aug04a.cfm and while you're there, why not sign up for the Dollar Stretcher ezines for even more good ideas. POST IT...on your computer, print out & start trying them out. * * * * * * * Recipe: Elegant, but Easy DessertI have seen photos of similar desserts in some pretty ritzy recipe magazines at the register racks, but you don't have to do it up fancy to have it LOOK fancy. Find some nice clear glass dessert dishes, maybe even at a garage sale or second hand store if you don't have them already. Use either a regular ice cream scoop or a melon baller to scoop out balls of ice cream into the dishes just before serving (the balls give it a nicer effect). Drizzle with a small amount of a particular flavor of preserves, and then top with a few fresh pieces of that same fruit. Some possible combinations...raspberry sherbet/raspberry preserves/fresh raspberries, strawberry frozen yogurt or ice cream/strawberry preserves/fresh strawberries, vanilla ice cream/just about any kind of preserves/with matching fresh fruit, orange sherbet/orange marmalade/thin orange slices. POST IT...in your recipe box under "desserts" and on your shopping list. * * * * * * * Back Issue Treasure: June 15th, 1999This back issue may have you reconsidering which new fridge you want to buy. Now that you know how to buy your movie tickets online (see article above), you might want to use the movie review site in this back issue to get detailed reviews of movies in the theatres and in videos. It will save you from wasting your money on movies with nasty surprises that the previews don't reveal. It is also a great site for checking out movies for kids...I LOVE THIS SITE! :-) A perfect complement to the book discussed above, would be the article in this issue about kids attending church and what to expect from them. With the book's great ideas, I'm sure our readers can come up with even better solutions than the original article. There are also some great articles on courtship and what to make of your children's standardized test results that are often revealed at this time of year. POST IT...by your computer. POST IT...in your car and keep an eye out, esp. if you are in the NJ area. Final WordsJOKE (Maybe not...)"I would have been a terrible mother, because I'm basically a very selfish human being. Not that that has stopped most people from going off and having children." --Katharine Hepburn, actress, 1907-2003 QUOTE"Parents often look to their children's future and set aside a nest egg for college or other special needs. But one of the best investments a parent can make has nothing to do with money. It has to do with honor. The daily work of building a home where honor reigns pays huge dividends in the end. It takes diligence, perseverance, and even a little creativity, but the results speak for themselves." --from "Say Goodbye to Whining, Complaining, and Bad Attitudes...in you and your kids" (see article above) * * * * * * * Sponsorship InformationIf you are interested in helping to sponsor our ezine, or others in the Dollar Stretcher family, drop an email requesting additional info to: mailto:marketing@stretcher.com?subject=MAN.
