"Knowing Me-Knowing You" POST IT...on your shopping lists for engaged or even married couples. * * * * * * * AntiBlister SocksAsk just about any member of the military and they will tell you that keeping your feet in good shape & blister free is worth just about any amount of money. Often the summer months bring on more participation in sports activities. Whether you are in the military, starting a new sport, or getting back into a old one, anti-blister socks are definitely worth the extra money. These socks are specifically designed to reduce the odds of blisters forming. Some are made with 2 thin layers, others are designed with extra thick cushioning in the areas where blisters are formed. They sound like they would make your feet hot, but generally they keep them cool & are also designed to carry the moisture away from your feet. For running or sports activities, our local running store recommends Wright Sock Double Layer Running socks (about $7). For boots (hiking or military), they recommend the Thorlos XJ-13 Crews ($12). If you have to wear a uniform with dark socks and need some added blister protection, then they recommend the Wright Sock Ultra Thin Running Sock in Black ($4). Prices will vary from store to store, so call before you go to check the price. Most of the time you will have to go to a Sporting Goods store to find these socks. These also might be nice things to send to your military friends or family overseas. POST IT...in your sock drawer, in the yellow pages under Sporting Goods, and where you keep your band aids. * * * * * * * Cheaper Girls' Play ClothesThis is something moms knew even when I was a little one (let's just say a long, LONG time ago :-). If you are buying play clothes for girls, it is usually cheaper to buy in the boys' section. For some reason boys' clothes just tend to be cheaper. There won't be that much difference in jeans, casual pants, shorts, and casual shirts. For some lean girls, the pants may fit even better than the girls' section pants. Note to the ladies...sometimes this is even true in the mens' & ladies' departments for adults. POST IT...in your dresser or in the yellow pages under "Department Stores". * * * * * * * National DO NOT CALL ListJust in case you missed it, you can put your phone numbers on the National Do Not Call List by going to their web site or calling a toll free number. It probably won't eliminate 100% of the calls, but most reputable companies will be using the list and eliminating numbers from their calling lists when it goes into effect in October. I would not enter your number unless you ARE getting calls (if it ain't broke, don't fix it), and remember that this law does not affect people calling for polls, political groups, or charities. BUT if you do get calls from polls, political groups, or charities, you can ask that they put you on their own "Do Not Call" list and they will usually comply. To enter your number either call 1-888-382-1222 or go to... http://www.donotcall.gov/ POST IT...near your computer or phone, & forward to all your friends/family. * * * * * * * Recipe: Dump Cake (from Caronell T.)This is one of those yummy recipes from an ancient unknown newspaper column. Preheat oven to 325F degrees. Pour 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling into a greased 9x13 pan. Spread 1 can (20 oz) of crushed pineapple over the cherry pie filling. Sprinkle 1 box of yellow cake mix evenly over pineapple & filling. Melt 2 sticks of butter or margarine & drizzle over dry cake mix layer. Sprinkle 1 can (3 1/2 oz) or about 1/2C of coconut over cake mix and 1 cup chopped nuts. Bake for 1 hour. Serve with whipped cream. POST IT...in your recipe box & shopping list. * * * * * * * Back Issue Treasure: July 1st, 1999Go to this back issue to get the scoop on some great desserts for 4th of July celebrations.
