We recommend that you print out the ezine, cut out each entry, & post it in these locations to make it easier for you to find when you need it. And if you like what you read, be sure to pass it on to someone else who can use it. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Clean Flicks WarningIn two previous issues I recommended CleanFlicks for purchasing and renting edited (violence, language, etc removed) movies. While I still think they have a wonderful product, due to recent developments in their customer service department, I feel that I can no longer recommend the company at this time. If you are having problems with CleanFlicks and have been unable to resolve it with the company, then I recommend you take it up with your credit card company. And if you ever have trouble with this, or any, company and do not feel the company handled things well, then consider filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau online at... http://complaints.bbb.org/Welcome.asp If you ever feel the problem with a company is widespread and/or may be deliberate, then consider contacting the Attorney General's office of the state the company resides in. Do a Google search under (name of state)-Attorney-General. POST IT... under your favorites in your computer. * * * * * * * Biscuit/Roll TrickIf you like the convenience of the refrigerated tubes of biscuits or rolls, but would like to put a bit more fluff into them, try this trick. After you separate the dinner rolls or biscuits & place on the cookie sheet, peel the top half away from the bottom half, then put it back on top. With most rolls, this will help them to rise a bit more, be a bit fluffier, and even give them more of a homemade look. POST IT...on the inside of the cupboard where you keep your cookie sheets. * * * * * * * Freedom Alliance Scholarship FundThe people at Freedom Alliance have established a scholarship fund for the children of military personnel killed in action, 100% disabled, or who are POW/MIA. As we approach Independence Day, I hope that we will all remember those who paid the ultimate price so that we could be free. For more info, or to make an online donation, go to... http://www.freedomalliance.org/scholarships.htm And if you would like to donate to a similar fund that benefits the children of Special Operations personnel killed in action, then check out our Back Issue Treasure below. POST IT...on your calendar for Independence Day, Memorial Day, and Veteran's Day. * * * * * * * Mercury ThermometersWhile there aren't too many of these around anymore, they are still available & many of us still have these old-fashioned dinosaurs in our medicine cabinets. And probably a good number of you out there have experienced a breakage, either in the mouth, or in the house. So here are some things you might like to know. First, the type of mercury in a thermometer is not like industrial mercury that you have seen horror stories about on TV. According to Poison Control, in most cases children could swallow an entire thermometer of mercury & it would pass right through them without any problem. There would be more of a concern if the child swallowed the glass that surrounded the mercury. To make sure you have all the pieces of a thermometer (or any other broken vessel), just try to piece the pieces together to make sure there aren't any missing. To play it safe, you should also throw out & rinse out any food or drink that might have been in the area when the item broke (don't forget pet dishes). To pick up mercury off the floor or other surface, use an index card or piece of cardboard to scrape the pieces into one big one. Then use another card to scoot the "ball" onto the card so that it can be disposed of. If you are trying to pick up tiny pieces of glass, then a slice of bread makes a great "picker-upper." The pieces of glass are trapped in the nooks & crannies of the bread. POST IT...inside the medicine cabinet where you keep your thermometer. * * * * * * * Recipe: Orange DreamThis dessert comes across like something you would have at an elegant restaurant, but is so easy that you won't want to give away your secret "recipe." Take one Yoplait Yogurt WHIPS (purple & white containers) Orange Crème Flavor for every guest you will be serving (you might want to make a little extra in case anyone wants seconds). Empty container & mound either into a pretty individual dessert dish, or one large dessert serving dish. For every TWO yogurt containers open up an 11 oz can of Whole Segments Mandarin Oranges in Light Syrup (You might have to check out brands for the oranges. At our store the cheapest cans were mushy, but the store brand was fine.). Drain well and spoon the segments over the top of the mound. Make a small zigzag of chocolate syrup over the top. If you like oranges, I think this dessert will be a hit. It also makes a nice snack, just put some orange segments into the yogurt container you are eating out of. But if you serve it as a dessert, don't be surprised if everyone wants the recipe. It reminds me of an orange mousse. POST IT...on your shopping list and in your recipe box. * * * * * * * Back Issue Treasure: July 17th, 2002This back issue will help you evaluate if it is time to give up a long time activity. Is it time to switch? Going on a vacation or missions trip this summer, then you might want to check out our article on the World's Most Dangerous Places and how to protect yourself. Glucosamine/Chondroitin has stayed in the news for help for certain joint problems, could it give you relief? Find out how to make a donation to help the families of Special Operations personnel (Special Forces, Navy SEALS, etc) who made the ultimate sacrifice. Looking for a change from regular baked potatoes for those summer grilling nights, try our Toss & Bake Italian Potatoes. All this & much more in this great back issue.
